View Full Version : Rear XRC bumper

I just installed an smitty built xrc rear bumper#76850 and now I want to put a tire carrier on it how can I do it on this bumper with out welding on it and messing up the finish?
or do I have to go another way .

I guess you could bolt on a pivot point for the frame that would hold the spare, but the frame would probably need to be welded to hold the weight of the tire and wheel.

You may be out of luck as far as maintaining the finish. If it's powered coated you have a problem. If it's just paint you should be able to get it back to smooth and repaint.

I'm sure we'll have some other and differing opinions posted here shortly.

I am not sure you can do that. Most of those spare carriers rotate on a stud that welds to the bumper. Even the builder parts I have seen are weld on

I think they built two bumpers, one built for a tire carrier and one that's not. Looks like that one doesn't have the spot for it. I think you could build one and make a flange to boot through the face of the bumper. It would mess up the finish where you drill through it but would be hidden.

They did build two different bumpers in xrc line. I have the tire carrier bumper, which is specifically designed with the carrier in mind.

The carrier bumpers are reinforced and feature a cut out for the swing away mount.
