So just pick up a 01 last sat and when it's in park it seems to idle good but in drive it seems to idle low to me, is this normal?

No Richard, it really isn't. The idle air controller is supposed to keep the engine idling at the same rpm regardless. It is probably just dirty. You can pull it, clean it and the place it goes up and all will probably be well

I took the throttle body off and cleaned it out and the idle air controller and it made a huge difference. A new idle air controller made even better difference. Mine is a 2000. Make sure and learn about the head popping abilities of the 1999-2001 xj's. Keep it cool but stay aware...

Thanks, just did a oil change and plugs so this weekend I'll get the IAC & throttle body cleaned out that's probably what's causing the slightly rough idle when it's in drive although it's very slight just don't like it

So I leave home today and a check engine light is on, code po304, miss fire #4 so I'll check that as soon as I have time and let you know what I find

Asking everyone; Wasn't heat soak common on the 2000 and 2001?

Yes it was. Let's wait and see if it is a persistent problem. Might have been part of the problem all along

So I pulled the coil pack and I have spark at each boot so I checked for ohms and only one cool gives a reading, is that the correct way of checking that or is there a different way I also noticed the heater hose lying on the coil so I did move it . Thanks for any help.

Decided to put a new coil pack because I saved 35% online also change positive cable so at this point the check engine light is off and is running smoother hopefully it stays that way I need a inspection. Next weekend I'll be doing waterpump and tstat it doesn't need it but previous owner put a new radiator and didn't put antifreeze so I figured it's cheap and hot out. I'll keep ya posted

Update, light is still off and passed inspection so that's good but there still is a slight rough idle so I pick up a new IAC i cleaned the old one but still the same also got a new steering box I tried to adjust it but there is just way to much play so I've got plenty off work.
