Some of you know (and some don't) that I work for a Jeep dealership in Minnesota. Part of the training that we have to do for new vehicles, besides the mind numbing videos etc online, is when a new one comes out we get the chance to go and do factory supported training in the new vehicles.

Yesterday we got to go do the training on the new Jeep Renegade. They had the better part of a parking lot in a large shopping mall blocked off in the metro. Tents all over the place with different stations for us to rotate to. There were interior stations and info about the 4x4 system and the different engines they are putting in the Jeep (not the diesel).

The instructors were very informative and they packed TONS on information into 4 hours worth of training. After doing this session I'm a little more excited about this vehicle. It's a great value for everyone. Period.

They encouraged us to take pictures and videos and share on any social media outlets we choose. I don't have Facebook or "The Twitter" so you guys are about as social media as I get. Here's the pics and a few short videos.

Introduction in the morning

1.6L Turbo motor only available with a 6 speed manual transmission. Turbo was so small you could put it in a decent sized jacket pocket. Puts out around 176 hp if my memory serves me correct. Impressive little motor and the size was amazing. 2 guys could pick up the motor and transmission without much effort and it's only about 2 feet wide and 3 feet long.

Breakdown of the 2.4 multiair Tigershark motor. One of the only motors on the market right now that is not using a camshaft to open the intake valves. Technology from Ferrari going into the Renegade.

Breakdown of materials used in the new Renegade. They sandwich hardened steel in the A, B, and C pillars that you cannot see in the photos. Also one of the only companies in the industry using hardened steel in the actual door skins. The hood weighed less that 4 pounds.

Finally got to drive these things. A whole gaggle of Trailhawks lined up to drive.

And finally they showed us how they "Trail Rated" the Renedade. According to Jeep the only thing that was lacking was the ability to ford water. For "Trail Rating" the vehicle must be able to traverse 19" of water to attain a Trail Rated Badge. They put 3 different door seals on the doors to reach this. They had a course set up for us to drive on (under supervision) to test out the comfort of the suspension and how the hill decent works, also how the "lockers" work.

Nothing a Cherokee can't handle but they are putting this vehicle up against other vehicles in the segment, ie Chevy Trax, Kia Soul, etc.
