You can do the 97-98 Grand Cherokee 4.0 120 amp alt or I believe there is one that is a 136 amp that is from the V8 GC... either way they both require you to do a bit of trimming to your factory bracket to clear them.. but well worth the work from what I've heard... I'm about to pick up one myself and use my spare bracket I have to do the clearance work, so it'll be ready to install at one time...

Here you can see with the one bolt holding it to the bracket that the case is a bit bigger then the stock 90 amp.

Grind it down just a little bit w/ dremel or full size grinder if you'd like.. like this:

You might find when putting it all back together that you might need to shave just a small bit off the edge of the timing cover where the alt. sets, but some folks have said they didn't have to do that..

Yeah it does seem pretty easy and minor modification needed to complete the swap... Not to mention the added benefit would be worth it..

Might be a good idea to use a heavier wire off the back of it. The new Jeeps do. 6 gauge I think

What are the symptoms? You mentioned that your alternator was going bad, is it not charging the battery?

well it was charging ok i guess but when i turned on my ac theres was a big volt drop on my gauge and it would squall. i squeezed my 136A in there and fixed my sqill but i still have the volts drop. im ordering an aftermarket digital volt gauge tomarrow to see if its just the gauge going bad

trust me its grounded lol i relocated the battery to the back and it has 2 dedicated body grounds from - on battery, up front it has one ground from AC bracket to body, 2 from alternator body to block, and 2 from block to body, im here on the beach and ground issues are bad here due to salt so i over killed
