I'm going on a trail ride with a group in a couple weeks and they require a CB. Any suggestions for a compact radio and good antenna? Looking for under 150$ if I can help it

You'll need to make an antenna mount. I'd recommend putting it behind the rear tail light, right side.

and get one of these...

^^ there ya go. Cheap and easy. Just have to buy.. or build an antenna mount. Most commonly mounted above the taillight on either side.

Right side is better (passenger) because most of the metal makes the antenna signal directional to the front left. That means you have you have better receive and transmit towards oncoming traffic. You know for those smokey reports. :P

Go figure... after I purchase and install a drivers side mount!! LOL Oh well.. I'll work with what I got for now... so long as it works out on the trails.... is all that really matters in the end for my setup..

Now you don't have to make a mount! About $30 after shipping

They make them for either side for the 96-, and IIRC they make em for both sides for the 97+ as well... They are pretty decent assemblies, and really easy to install... just have to say make sure you sand or grind off the powder coating around the mount holes of the mount and Jeep, so you can get the best ground connection...

Make sure the underside where the antenna stud mounts is clean too.

I run my antennaon the drivers side because I was running a long antenna and the drivers side kept it out of the trees on the side of the road.

Yeah when I get home I was gonna take my dremel and sand wheel and clean off all the mount holes and the stud hole... as well as the two bolt holes on the XJ.. I'll see how it works if I'm able to get it dialed in as far as SWR... So long as signal wise works well on the trail, then I'll leave it be... if not, then I'll order up the passenger side mount and move the coax over to that side...

It will be fine on the drivers side.
