I am no expert on this, but I used 2 6X9 three ways in the tail gate and two 6.5 two ways in the doors and it was plenty loud. Good quality sound too with pioneer speakers. I have tried Xplod speakers and did not find as good a sound out of them

I've heard good things about pioneer. Everything I have seen says 6.5s will fit but you may need to cut something and you prbly need shallows for the front so the windows don't hit it when they roll down.

I didn't have those issues. On my 86 the speakers are forward enough not to be bothered by windows. The screw holes almost matched. I ended using a new plate pop riveted in for the Pioneers. I mounted them outside the panel instead of inside. Plenty of room then

Let us know what you do. There are others on here that are more sound system savvy than me for sure

I've always been partial to Pioneer. It's preference really. I'm not a fan of the sony speakers though I will tell you that. JBL is good stuff too but they can get expensive. Good Luck!

I ran Pioneer 3 ways in the front doors and in the rear sound bar of my 98.. Have been thinking about doing the same setup in my 97 as well... Although today I was looking at some of the Dual speakers @ Wal Mart, and they have a 4 way speaker, that sounded pretty decent.. but I would be running them mainly so if they got damaged while offroad, it wouldn't be a huge loss.. but don't think it'd give you the performance you're looking for, especially not with an amp

went with infinity on another project. best off the shelf speaker I found for the $.

Throw a small amp on it to make it sound 100x better. edit. Nvmd, sounds like you got it covered!
