Just joined today as I caught the XJ bug. I have wanted one for years, but just got serious lately. Looking to find a 98-01 XJ and build up to a decent expedition/camping rig. I have some cool ideas of how I want to do it, but I want to poke around and learn more before I commit.
Thanks for the warm welcome!

Lots of us do expedition style camping, including myself. I also camp in serious off road areas too. I love to get away from it all and find places where I can get away from people

I'm a little late but welcome to xjtalk. The bug gets the best of us! In your search, may i suggest trying to look more for the 98-99 due to the 0331 head issues. Its not a deal breaker as long as you keep it from overheating but one less thing to worry about. Plus the 00-01 had coil on plug ignition and low pinion front axle so even more reason to stay away from them.

Good luck in the search and let us know what you get.

Sent via messenger pigeon - i talk, he types.

:welcome: #1 unless you want to "possibly" replace the head in the future, stay away from the 2000 and 2001.

Everyone, thanks for the great feedback! I wasn't aware of some of these issues with the 00-01 XJ's.

Thinking I need a '99. I'm glad I joined xjtalk.com.

There are lots of people out there with 2000 and 2001 Jeep Cherokees that do just fine, but if it were me I figure why take the chance. :xj-red:
