Hi, I'm new to Jeeps all together and don't have one yet. I joined the site to get some ideas and advice on what to look for and what to stay away from. I am looking for an XJ Cherokee probably a '98-'00 just as a daily driver and very mild off road vehicle. Look forward to learning more about them.

I know 2000 and 2001 XJ owners cringe when I say this, but those years had a head design change that made them prone to cracking.

With that said...

1999 Jeep Cherokee
4.0L
AW4 or 5 speed manual
Dana 30 high pinion front axle
Chrysler 8.25 29 spline axle (97+ is 29 spline)
NP231 or NP242 transfer case. (Most people feel the NP231 is stronger)

Keep us up to date with your search! Feel free to post up the Jeeps you find and we'll be happy to give your our opinions! :xj-red:
