on my journey to track down my running prob i have found out that along with 10 billion other things my map sensor being bad could course my issues. i want to replace it BUT the MAP for my 96 XJ cost almost $100. does any one know where i can get one cheaper OR if there is a compatible Map from truck that would be cheaper?

Rockauto have these:

STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS Part # AS146 {#56028303} $75.79
AIRTEX / WELLS Part # 5S2473 {#56028303, SU3032} $75.89

You could also try Autozone.
Otherwise see if you can find a used one from a junkyard.

You know, I very rarely hear about these sensors going out. Might be worth it to go to a pick and pull and trying out a used one. Should be able to get one for ~$10 I would think.

the scanners showing a High MAP output thats the only reason i wana change it. i cant really test it to see if its bad seeing how i cant find a vacuum pump to test it with. what else can cause the scanner to show a high MAP reading?

A vacuum leak.
Check all the vacuum lines coming from the intake manifold, and the lines going to the vacuum canister. If you've recently removed the intake manifold from the head, check the bolts and make sure they're tight in case there's a leak around the gasket.
