Have managed to remove the downpipe from the rest of the exhaust system, broken off right at the top where it bolts to the manifold, how the hell do I get the top part off, can't seem to be able to get at it?

I don't know what I'm looking at there. Is that a 4.0l engine?

It's a 2.5 TD that pic is sort of looking down to where the downpipe/manifold connect, somewhere in there.

I checked your "info" before asking and you didn't have an engine listed. You can just tell people as they ask on your post or you can go to User CP > Edit Details and fill in the information. It's handy for those asking and answering the questions.

So looking around for a picture of the 2.5L I found this...

It looks like it's right below the intake. That thing with the red rubber thread protectors in the exhaust collector.

It's exactly the same as this type, great if you've got the engine out lol it seems it bolts onto the turbo so guessing it's best/easiest to remove the turbo to do it
