Amp vs wire size

Working the Jeep sound system. What size wire should I run to the speakers from the amp. Is there a rule of thumb for amp size and wires? Say I have a 400 watt amp and 4 speakers. It depends on the length of the run right? So if im running the sound bar vs the door speakers, they should be a bigger gauge so they get similar power? How do you know how much your amp actually puts out? :confused:

Found this little chart. is there anything else I need to know? looks like the 14 or 16 (more like 20, the 18 gauge roll I have looks like pure beef comparing the two) gauge wire thats in there now isn't going to do it.

The theory I was taught back in the dark ages is that the electrons only travel on the surface of the wire. So, more filaments means more surface area and there more capacity to carry the current and a higher amperage rating for the same size wire. Supposedly

Romex works the same. It is cheaper to make one strand than a bunch of little ones
