View Full Version : 50" LED Lightbar Mounting Brackets

Been working on offering these for a while and am glad to finally say I am now offering these brackets for sale.

Now offering these brackets for ALL year XJs.

They are made from 1/8" steel, press broke, and come coated in primer. Each bracket is secured to the backside of the a-pillar with 5 TEK self tapping screws. The only modification necessary for 84-96 XJs is drilling the a-pillar for the mounting screws, but 97-01 models will require some minor cutting to the weatherstripping lip on the backside of the a-pillars. These are made to fit 50/52" LED lightbars (straight, not curved bars) measuring approximately 52" end to end minus the usually supplied L brackets.

The price is $80 shipped to any continental 48 US states. I can check for how much extra it would cost to ship elsewhere. Payment via paypal. Don't miss out! :D

This is what the kit consists of. 2 brackets, 10 screws, 2 rubber washers to isolate the lightbar, as well as instructions.

autotech98
02-27-2015, 01:20 AM
Also they should work for the 97 + .maybe just the holes for theclight bar in a different spot. I dont think there is much difference in the angle of the A pillar between the two

I appreciate it Ian! I did make the lower brackets and look for them in the future... :D

Also they should work for the 97 + .maybe just the holes for theclight bar in a different spot. I dont think there is much difference in the angle of the A pillar between the two

The main difference is the 97-01 has a metal strip that runs down the backside of the a-pillar that holds the small piece of weatherstripping and interferes with the mounting area. As far as I know you can cut that strip off and they should bolt up fine. But without one to try it on I can't say for sure. I understand that people may not want to cut it off so i'm looking into ways of working around it.

autotech98
02-27-2015, 01:36 AM
Cool i will look for the a pillar mounts. And yeah i can see the point about the weather strip. Couldnt go look at mine as im at work right now. Although if you used rivets for the 97+ you could reglue the weather striping over the mount no?

XJ Wheeler
02-27-2015, 01:56 AM
I could use rivets now without having to cut the metal strip but I don't really trust them for something that's quite this heavy and deals with vibrations like this. But I have no doubt the weatherstripping could be re-secured somehow. I used 3m double sided tape to re-attach mine. I know the newer ones are different but even making a add on plate to slip it over is an option.

02-27-2015, 02:07 AM
So many choices..lol. This is why i cant have a welder. I had acess to one at my old job and built a four tab gutter mount light bar from memory. Wife asked why i said cause i could

I have a question for you since you had your bumpers off are there studs in the bumpers with nuts that go through the mounts on the Jeep or the other way around. I was asking you cuz I was thinking of sandwiching the D ring mount between the bumper and the body with the bolts going through boat with a slot in the bumper for the D ring

XJ Wheeler

Sure. The front bumper has 4 mounting bolts to the mounts. 2 go through the bumper to threaded clips in the bottom of the mounts, and 2 go through the mounts to threaded clips in the bumper.

7086

The rear is the same if I remember correctly. Although the rear mounts get in the way of going straight from the frame to the bumper, so a different mount is necessary unless you can route around it. I plan to make a new mount for mine that simply has a flat plate on both sides and bolts through the bumper. It would be easy to add a shackle mount to that.

Best pic I have and only shows the bottom two.

7087

Also I must add that I haven't gotten the opportunity to remove bumpers on a 97+ so it may be different.

I will have to look and see about taking some pics. I just get frustrated cause i have the skills just not the equipment any more. My old boss didnt beleive that i rebuilt the head wheel box guard for our main sand belt in the foundry with nothing more than a grinder with a cut off wheel and a stick welder... Our welder was about 50 years old and wouldnt go low enough to use the sheet metal rods without turning them cherry red after a few seconds. I had to weld fast or the rods melted.

Those brackets look pretty nice.. Wish there was a way to build in an antitheft device to them, for those of use that can't weld, or don't have access to a welder.. Maybe have an option for a tab that can be riveted on once the light bar is installed.. That way if someone was looking to steal your bar, they either have to tear some stuff apart, or bring a drill or sawzall... Maybe once I can get the parts collection I currently got installed, and get a light bar for my front bumper, I might look into this as I was thinking about doing something, just wasn't sure if I wanted to do a mount like this, or mount it to my roof rack..

Ah, sorry Jim. I knew I shoulda looked before saying something. It looks like they changed their design and is now too wide for these. But mine measures 51 7/8" and any bar within about 1/4" either longer or shorter at the mounting points (minus their brackets) should work.

I've been wracking my mind on doing something to secure the lightbar mounting bolts but it seems impossible. With the massive amount of variety of bars available and thus different mounting hardware makes it increasingly harder. And with the ones that can't/don't weld is another obstacle. But I can suggest searching for replacement "security" bolts to replace the supplied ones. And for the ones that can weld, welding the bolts to the brackets or welding something over the bolts. I will continue thinking on it and will certainly post up if I figure it out. Thanks for the interest!

Just a suggestion. I would not want to weld them. What if you need to re aim the light? Lots of security bolts out there, say like the ones that are in bathroom stalls. You can tighten, but not loosen them without the right tool

I completely agree. And actually i think I've come up with an option that will bolt on and be removable but difficult for someone who doesn't know how it works. Just give me some time to make and test it.

I have finally gotten these brackets to work on 97-01 XJs. To make sure the same brackets could be used on both older and newer models there is going to be some minor cutting on 97-01 models to the weatherstripping lip on the backside of the a-pillars. But good thing is since the same brackets will work they won't cost any more. I'll update the original post.

That sounds like a pretty good deal.. You going to have a thread up showing what needs to be trimmed or modified?? That way us 97+ folks can see what all is involved prior to purchase?? Once I get my bumper LED lights taken care of.. I'm thinking of looking at the 50" mount and/or the pillar mounts!!

That may be useful huh. :D

Basically you need to cut the lip that holds the weatherstripping on the backside of the pillar where the brackets mount.

This lip.

Been a while since I brought some new info here so I figured i'd let you know I am pleased with finding some cheaper suppliers that allows me to bring the price down to $80 a set! How often do you see that!

As well as I am glad to say I have started a ebay page for these and my other brackets. Sadly ebay wants money to be able to sell on their site so I had to raise them to $85 on there to cover part of the fees. But you can still get the regular price by contacting me directly. Here's the link to the 50/52" brackets' listing. http://www.ebay.com/itm/282081964204?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
