Steering Wheel.

The PO of my rig has taken the airbag out of the steering wheel since he put an aftermarket bumper on. The steering wheel is chewed up. Has any one put an aftermarket steering wheel on a 1997 XJ ?

I'm prob wrong but it was my understanding that the airbags are triggered by accelerometers not any type of crumple sensor. I wonder why he ended up doing that.

In any case, I'm very interested in the answers to your question, as my steering wheel as seen better days and I will probably end up replacing it with an aftermarket one at some point.

I'm sure it can be done, however i would think that the clock spring would pos an issue... but i could be wrong...
And I would also venture to guess that the airbag light would also remain on all the time.
Could all this be circumvented? probably... pull the fuse for the airbag circuit and see if the light goes away. This would of course disable the SRS system, so if you were to crash, there would be no protection other than the seatbelts.

good luck with clock spring. people usualy rig the 2 horn wires to a button on the dash.
"Grant" is a steering wheel company. you can find a hub and wheel. put the hub on. then bolt wheel to it. could even get a quick release :)

i used to have this JDM gem..........wish i never sold it :(
