Anyone have full sets of dimensions for d44's? Front and rear??

also is it possible to flip a rear low pinion and make it a high pinion??

Can't flip them Dana. There are several widths. Scout axles and Wagoneer axles 74 and up, but I don't have the measurements. Thinking about the over the edge project?

Yup, want to build them in 3d

I have a TJ in the shop with a D44. I suppose you want the pumpkin dimensions too?

Right now I'm just looking at the overall dims, need to locate the pinion exactly. Basic stuff.

I found this information for stock TJ axles. Includes the Rubicon D44s.

Not sure if this is what you were looking for.

I found that too, just not enough dimensions, i am looking to locate the flanges and yolk so that it is an acurate 3d model, then i can calculate driveshaft length and pinion angle and so forth.

thanks abe!!!

Cool. Well if Steve doesn't get out to the shop today, I'm planning on pulling the TJ into the garage for a little maintenance tonight and could get some pics and measurements of her rear 44.

Ah well, can't help you out there. Pretty sure Steve only has the rear 44 too. I did find this information on the Prorock 44 from Dynatrac for a TJ. Has a lot of measurements in it that might be useful.

Dana, the D44 front is the same gears and stuff as the rear. So the pumpkin dimensions will be the same. What I don't have is the placement of the pumpkin, such as axle lengths.

Wish I would have read this earlier today! I was just at the PNP and this was sitting right there. Would have been super easy to measure.

Oh I want those axles …..

Anyway, the pinion flange from center of axle to face, whichis also the center of articulation for the U joint is 12 5/8" Tubes on this one are 2 3/4"

That give yo what you need?

That helps! I need the offset from one side, and how much the drop or rise is on a low or high pinion

Offset not so tough. Drop on the pinion might be a bit tough

so does the tj front 44 have reverse cut gears in it? or are they standard cut?

what i'm thinking is: if they are standard cut, then I can turn a front 44 housing around to use it on the rear, making a high pinion rear, then swap the gears to reverse cut so that when the rear driveshaft spins clockwise (looking at the front of the housing) it will reverse the direction that the pinion used to rotate and contact the reverse cut gears properly and poof I have a rear high pinion 44 that is contacting the gears properly keeping all of its strength!

Yes its technical but just might work!

and if the tj front has reverse cut gears already, then turning it around and having the pinion spin in the opposite direction means that it will be contacting better and have the strength!

sounds like a win win! yes I realize this will require a lot of custom work!

They are standard run of the mill old school gears. The reverse cut gears are in the high pinion front ends

So then a 44hp front, has reverse cut gears, and I can swing it around to the rear, run it in reverse and I'm done??? Well with major axle refurbishing!!!

Yeah, I suppose. How are you going to do all this?

I've got the tools, I've got the skills and dammit I'm crazy enough to do it!!!!

Welllllll, I have to admit you have me intrigued. I actually went out and started measuring my 2 door to see if I could do it. I haven't figured out gas tank and batteries specifically yet, but I could I think and still retain a modified Atlas

You can buy just the housings for the rock jock currie 44, then build them up as you want them!

Now I just need the money! Still have that kidney for sale!!!

I am going a different route. Much cheaper. I am using a differential with stamped steel housings. There are two good ones to use. The Toyota 8.25" and the Ford 9". Both have removable third members and with a centering devise, which I have for the Toyota, you can cut the housing and reweld it for an off set if you desire. Full float kits are available for it and custom axles are relatively inexpensive at $161 apiece.
