My 1998 4.0 L 6C awd4 Cherokee showed the p1899 code. I removed the nss, cleaned it, re-greased it and re-installed it. The reverse lights came back on but I can still start the car in every gear and also the car is very sluggish when in drive and acts as if it doesnt want to go but performs perfect in reverse and in lower gears. I also have 2 new codes; p0700 and p0705.. transmission codes I'm sure. Could it be that the nss is bad or that I need to adjust and re-position the nss? any suggestion or fixes would be great.. Thanks

Not sure the NSS would cause any sluggish issues, but hey at least you can start it although in every gear, most people have the opposite issue.

So you're saying that the reverse lights are on all of the time and you can start the vehicle when it's in gear? sounds like something is seriously wrong with your NSS or the wiring.

I am going to suggest you have ,more than one issue here. What the NSS does is ground the coil on the starter relay. Starting in any gear indicates it is permanently grounded. The issue with the gears I think is a linkage problem. Get everything back together correctly?

I think I got everything back together correctly...I am going to take it apart again today and re-install.. The reverse lights were not working before I cleaned the nss but now they are so i know I got that part right. I am also not sure where the other 2 codes came from; the p0700 and p0705. Could they all be related to this same issue?

The 0700 series code all have to do with the TCS (Trans Control System module) but that can have to do with the sensors confusing the module, if they are not installed correctly. If those codes were not present before, then I would 2x the improper installation.
