Just curious if anyone may have an answer. I got a new 1995 Cherokee 4.0 starter. My 1999 needs a starter. Just was double checking part # and the 1999 is saying it's different and allot more yet it makes less power. Any ever deal with this or switch them out?

Mudderoy came across this as well recently. The connections are different, that's why the different price, if I recall correctly

Which being its only 2 wires I don't see that a big issue. I did research the specs. The '95 has 1.8kw power. The '99 has 1.2kw power. I wonder if that more power would be good thing. I could see the change being related to manufacturing reasons and product line

Does a 130,000 sound about rite for a oem starter on 4.0l?

Sounds pretty good to me. I recently replaced the one on my 99 @~100k

It will work, you need to unbolt the connector from the 99 starter solenoid and transfer it over to the 95 starter.

**edit** Also if you want to rebuild your 99 starter to keep as a spare, there is a good thread on NAXJA about it. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1115001
