I think its on the fritz. Sounds like a pissed off squirrel is right in front of the steering wheel when I push the brake pedal. Hard stops REALLY get him pissed!!

whats the protocol here? new pump? (because braking is important!) Find a JY pump with hopefully less miles than mine? Can they be rebuilt?

Or just downshift when I need to stop ? :smiley-taunt002: :D

brakes are about the only thing I haven't touched on it yet....,

looks like disabling ABS and replacing the entire system is a popular swap on pre 1991 XJs.

If it were offroad only I would try to just take the pump out of the system (bypass) and see if it stops good and holds good. If you drive it on the street that's a different story requiring some research. You don't want to kill a car full of nuns.

Swapping to something off of a non ABS Xj sounds like a good idea, once again it will require some research. Keep this updated I'm curious about the outcome.

she doesn't like going over 50 mph. what if I put an air horn under the hood? I really like the downshift method for stopping in town.

all jokes aside, I'll prolly just pull the relay and see how that does. still stops fine with whatever's wrong with it. and it pulls to the left a tad on hard stops so as long as the nuns are in the slow lane, they should be fine.
