Just got my first XJ last month and so far no regrets. I've had pretty much every jeep that they've built and this might be the best fit so far. We're up in northern New Mexico and there are endless trails that I'm ready to explore.
I picked it up off craigslist and overall it was well taken care of. So far I have replaced the tires with Goodyear Duratrac 33's on 15 in black rims (the 31's on it were worn and the rims were cheesy). Also picked up a roof rack this past week. I have lots of plans for it but still trying to figure out what it needs versus what I want.
One of the first projects I'd like to tackle is the lift. The po did a 3-4 inch lift, but it seems like it was pieced together. Not a complete lift kit, rather a mixture of parts. Based on the other work that has been done, I don't feel like I need to tear it all out and start over completely. The leaf springs were rebuilt and I'm not sure how much of the lift is shackle and how much is spring. I am thinking about starting with new lead springs and seeing where it sits. I'd like to know if anyone has any experiences like this and could pass on any lessons learned. I'll get some pics and more details up shortly.
