The few times I've gone camping where I needed to stay warm, I used a fire... I'm thinking about buying a collapsable fire ring setup to carry with me when I'm going wheeling where I plan on doing some camping or anytime I'm taking my camping gear out with me... Figure that way I can do the responsible thing of having the fire ring around my fire.. Been going to a few camp sites that have old semi rims already at the camp sites for fire ring use... but don't really feel like carrying around a semi rim with me, not to mention they cost more then the collapsable fire ring setup I'm looking at..

Me and my rottweiler do expedition snow camping. I've got a -20 degree bag with a liner and a bivy sack. I usually sleep in a snow cave I dig out. For the most part keeps me warm. I've got Patagonia series 3 long underwear, a few pairs of wool socks, boots for the temp (-40). And then just typical pants, down jacket, I swear by these things (http://www.patagonia.com/us/product/mens-capilene-4-baselayer-expedition-weight-zip-neck?p=43656-0)
If the temps are anything above 25 I go much lighter. I'm not too much into car camping. Reminds me too much like "glamping."

I had something a little more like this in mind.

Cars act like a refrigerator in cold weather. But I've lived outa my xj for 14 months. Not bad being single and having a jug of some sort to piss in at night.

Sleeping bag that is good to -40... I usually end up sweating balls regardless of the temp outside!

Warm clothes, stay active and I climb into my sleeping gear when the sun goes down...although that last one makes for long nights this time of the year.
