Howdie everyone
I am new here but I got a XJ on my hands and plan on doing some cool things With it. To start off I bought it 20Miles from where I currently live, for 500$ pretty Fun to me it sounds. The plan was to get this thing towed by my buddies truck but he was being the lame butt that he always is. First things First damage to windshield(see how long we can go with it), 80’s bubbly tint removed, RemoVal of Fesses, rat, squirrel, or cat or possum or whatever that nasty dried up tastes where. The Extraction of the Carburetor was next to find out what the problems where-witch was missing linkages and stuck primary throttle plate- I called around and a shop wanted 235$ off the vehicle and 275 on mOtOr carbURetor rebuild - next best option was to do some Yard HunTiN’ I hope y’all know what that means, an Expedition to U Pick U Save and You Pick Your Part, witch their part for sale was in total 60$ worth plus BuS MoneY.
BlAHHHHH where are my manners)>_<) this car was sitting for in total 16 years WITH A GRAND TOTAL OOOFFFF{drum roooolll please ladies and gents} 212K Miles. 1986 Jeep WagonEEr with a 2.8L V-6 2BbbL carb, $4x4$ and as I know of they carry Dana 30s? This vehicle is completely stock besides a 80’s style satellite phone.
The fuel was the first thing that was needed to be done witch there was les then 1GaL in side and non the less, fuel dumped, went to the nasty fuel canister and took out the lines and blew out the fuel to for one check to see if they where clogged; I then dumped the canister out of the fuels, once that was done the fuel filters where kept because I also blew it out with compressed lung spaces.
I then started her up after I took the battery out of the CrX and into the jeep, is was a smokker at first but I let her get nice and warm again after the oil was changed and the Filter. She wasn’t running to well with the carb that was on her so I did the best thing and for a clean “new carb” and slapped her on and she was running again, no smoke after 3rd or 2nd Run.
The brakes as in the pistons and Proportion valve and all the oil where taken apart and cleaned of its dirts and rusts, and the lines where bled as well. ( the use of new brakes will come once I receive a job) At this point I knew that there was something wrong with the clutch system and I knew I had to do something about it. The truck was on stands and so I wend under and took out the Slave cylinder because I saw the clutch MC was dried up, and I found one that the slave cyl was cleaned and being bled, that the cylinder its self was imperfect so another 20$ needed to come out of the trees so I could pay to get this thing driving.
I found that this is no easy task to do if you don’t have all of the best tools in the world, because the slave cylinder is mounted by two NUTS top and bottom but you know what the Hanes wanted me to do? Remove TRAnny, I was like oh no I don’t want to do this by my self, so I started to use all of my crafts that I have obtained over the years. I cut the floorboard Just to remove the SC of the Hydro clutch SYS. In order to do this I had to remove the Carpet, witch is now stored, seats had to be removed and upon removal there was rust on the driver side seat rail, so the wire wheel/ and paint was a useful friend. After the dirty carpet was removed I could see the extent of the rust that was from the MC on the Clutch SYS down to the Drivers’ Floor pAn, I knew that I would have to cut and paste later so I just took measurements down for now.
After the Floorboard on the passanger side was removed to take the SC out from the tranny, the piece was the prepped by, wire wheel,welding,grinding,bonding,and painting. Pretty fun if you asked me, got to use the MIG welder with more depth of usage. A few of nights passed by, 2 to be precise, and I was board and I wanted to try to get rid of major body dents tuntill I can afford the costs of Cutting and Pasting, come on NOW everyone METAL is just MENtAL Afterall, just like a car is just a body ;) you didn’t hear that from… wait huH?
