Thanks for the Welcome Brasscatz. I'm a Retired (don't ask what size tires ;)) now living in Mississippi. Moved down here from Colorado Springs, CO. in 2002 after retiring. Sold off my 1993 Wrangler Sahara and my 1985 Chevy 4x4 shortbed pickup back then to buy a Motorhome.

Now want to get back into some 4 wheeling (I'm more of a trail rider/explorer off roader than a rock crawler -- though I enjoy watching those who are), so I bought a 2000 XJ from a couple in Satsuma, AL who were using it as a DD, and towing it behind their Motor home (I will be towing it also).

It's a green 4d, 4x4, auto. Stock vehicle with what looks like a factory tow package. I haven't checked out the gear ratios yet, but it came to me with P225/70R15 Firestone Wilderness M+S on the front, and P225/75R15 Hankook Optimo H724s on the rear. Tread on all four below 50%.

Here's a picture:

Again, thanks for the welcome. I'm still trying to figure out how to use the forum, but enjoying it.

:welcome: to :xjtalk: and :thanx: for taking the time to register and post!

I tried fixing the picture, but it appears the link is bad somehow. All you need is the "http:/{stuff}.jpg" and just put around it.

Welcome George. I am not retired, just tired. There are two ways to post pics on here. If you have a single pic you can use the Go Advanced option and post with Manage Attachments. But photobucket is a better option if you want to comment around it. I had trouble with photobucket the other day too.

Thanks BD. So far it seems like it is going to be a good one. Trying to join a local area jeep club to join in on some Mississippi trail riding.

Welcome to xjtalk George. Glad you joined us here. Looks like you scored a very nice xj. Do you have any plans to modify it or keep it as a nice daily driver?

Lived near the Springs for a while too by the way. Still miss it.

Oh, and this link should help with learning the site. http://www.xjtalk.com/showthread.php?t=12582&highlight=video

Thanks for the welcome and the good words.
Still thinking about what mods, and with my income, I will have lots of time to think about it.

Just got under it today to verify what axles it has: D30 Front and D35 Rear.

Found four P235/75 15s on local craislist that were pulled off a cherokee (Honeycomb) wheels that look to have almost new tread, which would give me a near term improvement for my current tires, and a small tire size increase over the current 225s. But he wants $250 for them (wranglers) which appear to be about what Walmart is selling for $70 each. Of course, I would get another set of rims and no mounting and balancing costs (~$12 a wheel around here). I'll have to think a bit more about that deal.

I would probably be classified as a trail rider/overlander type off-roader for the most part. When I used to go over the passes in Colorado (Imogene, Argentine, Mosquito, Ophir, etc.) in my 1985 Chev Stepside 4x4, I had 31" BFGs, so considering my style and experiences, that would be about what I expect to aim for for this XJ.

Looking at (sometime) an OME lift (can't decide on what size yet), heavier duty steering components, winch/bumper, rear bumper/tire mount/accessories/gas cans, 44 axles, lockers, etc. Durability and capability and reliability are my targets generally. Time will tell.

Thanks for the link on the forum "how to", and hope you're having a good T-day weekend.

George, if you are going to run 31s, you won't need either of those D44s. A D35 will stand up to 31s nicely in spite of their reputation

Steve, you're undoubtedly right. Added them as a maybe sometime item, if I ever went into more hardcore wheeling (though probably not).

Jeep made a pretty healthy stock product, and I will be thinking long and hard about any/all mods I might eventually make.

Finally worked out some issues on my towbar/towing situation. I have a 23 1/2" Motorhome I will be towing the XJ with.

Plan on hooking up everything tomorrow and doing some level pavement measurements because I think I'm going to need a +4" receiver adapter on the MH to get to a level towing situation.

Then I'll need to hook up the braking system on the XJ. Should be good to go after that.

Yeah, the 35 was OK for what it was designed for. I have a locker in mine and have run it in the rocks now for some time. It is getting airborne and coming down under power it doesn't like
