View Full Version : Fuel gauge stuck!

Here goes another question.... my 91 XJ fuel gauge on the dash is stuck it says that I have for gas when I don't .even when I turn the engine off it doesn't move. somewhere I read that this is a short somewhere ,any help would be appreciated!

Does it move at all when you turn the key on or off?

Take the plug apart by the tank and ground the wire from the gauge. If it gets pegged you have a short in the wire. If not then you need to replace the gauge

No,it never moves at all just fully tacked out!

Let me give you some advice about fuel gauges. Never trust them. I've got over 2 million miles driving a semi and have had the fuel gauge go out in three different semis. Go by your miles and top of every chance you get. I know I know there is a difference between a semi and a jeep, but they both suck at fuel milage. There is a reason why lots of jeeps carry fuel cans.
