I bought a 2014 JK a couple of months ago and slowly customizing it up. I'm thinking about adding a rugged ridge snorkel to it . 99.9999% of the time I do not need it and can go around, but what fun is going around. I've never had a snorkel on anything and have flooded out my pick up in the past. What are the disadvantage and what are the advantages to having a snorkel (besides being able to not flood out as easy)? Is there a fuel milage difference? Will it mean more air=more fuel=more fuel cans=shit it just got more expensive? Help ideas suggestions anything is appreciated.

Wayne, Cantab27 is the guy to ask. He has had one on an XJ and now on a TJ and does a lot of "swimming" as he calls it.

Used mine today (intentionally) here's the deal a snorkel is a whole lot cheaper than an engine

Point well made. Does it change the fuel milage any with the better air flow?

Not a daily driver so I don't know. I'm going to say no because the computer and sensors adjust accordingly to air fuel ratio. More air the computer is going to adjust with more fuel.

Have a Safari snorkel on mine for the past 3 years, and have had an 'extreme conditions' top fitted for a year. As said, no difference at all in MPG, the new top does howl like an induction kit under power due to the design. I'd rather have a snorkel fitted and not need it, than bein caught out and killing the engine. :)

Heres mine, i like that it gets true cold air. If i go deeper than my hood then i have alot more problems to deal with.

If swimming is your thing, are a few other things to keep an eye on. breather tubes for diffs and axle seals come to mind.

They're also good for getting your intake up over the dusty air if you operate in dusty conditions all the time. Helps a bit.

The cowling snorkel like above is what I'm probably going to end up using on my Jeep as well.
