Roof rack / wind noise question

so i decided to remove my homemade rack to see if it affected mpg (NOPE)
but it had like a growling roaring on the highway.
seeing that it never got fully painted and it was rather tall. i cut it down.

heres the original finished rack.

my question is if i remove the top bar in the front and put just a slant support bar on the ends would that kill the noise? or is the noise coming from the cavity from bottom bar and roof of jeep?

THat would prolly help. I'd fix a wind faring to it and see if that helped before I cut out that bar. you don't want all your stuff to fly off the roof when you hit the brakes!! :smiley-laughing021:

i still strap synch it all down though. too late bar was cut yesterday.
and a friend is rewelding it. looks alot better shorter. was going to buy a light bar and build that into a wind fairing dealy some how. idk. errrr

so how does it sound without the top bar?

idk yet. still waiting on the young wipper snapper to weld the whole top ring back on (now a "U" shape)

Rule of thumb is any roof rack will make more wind noise than without. Is your headliner in?

ya. Iv been contemplating removing it. so i can bolt things to the ceiling

I have a roof rack it started with out a wind fairing then I made one and it is alot quiter now. I'm working on one with a light bar biult in.
