Sorry to post this, but it appears our beloved Rubicon trail is either burned up or threatened. Posted here is the USFS fire map from their website and my sone called me with a supposed eye witness report that said the the tip of the fire had burned through Hell Hole area. Here is a link for that trail.

I don't know if we should believe the reports from people that talked to my son, but it does look like the fire has burned at least half of the Hell Hole trail and part of the Chipmunk Jeep trail, which is on my bucket list this fall. At any rate, the fire is only 10% contained and headed for the Granit Chief Wilderness area.

Very sad to hear. Thanks for reporting it here. Hope they can get it contained quickly. Seen what it can do first hand, it isn't pretty.

Update on this fire. First off, they have arrested a man who they claim is the arsonist. Fast work, but apparently the county mounties had been in contact and watching him before he set it. Maybe they should let us wheelers dispense justice eh?

Below is the latest fire map. The arrow points to the Chipmunk Ridge Jeep Trail, which I was going to in a week or two. Not so sure now. The Hell Hole Trail is lined in since it is difficult to see from aerial photos.

Thought I would give a little update on this fire. Here is a vid I don't think we will ever be able to make again.

If I read the fire map correctly, the fire has now burned through where this was taken.

The good news is that the Rubicon trail does not seem to be threatened at all. However the Chipmunk Ridge Jeep Trail has been completely burned over and is visible from aerial photos now

It's a shame that something so beautiful has to be ruined by one off balance iperson.

They got him though, and quickly. Too bad it was too late to prevent this nonsense

I had heard last week that they had been watching him even before it happened.

Apparently so, but they needed to grab him quicker. Too bad about that area. I had found many trails on maps and aerial photos that are unpublicized that offered many days of new adventures that are now completely charred

If only they would have.

The greenies need to be pursuing these people not offroaders if they want to save the land!

That is a fact, but then they would actually have a practical use

Probably hard for them to justify that.
