Wanting to build a replacement engine for my 99 Cherokee. What year engines should I look for, as a base for my new engine build.
I have a 91 at the shop right now I'm getting ready to change the engine out is this feasible to use for my 99?

I think the block would be fine, but to account for all the updates in the later models, you'll want a newer head, intake, etc.

Yes it'll work fine. The only difference is that the '91 head has a port at the rear for the coolant temp. sending unit so you'll just need to plug it.
Are you doing a stock rebuild or considering a stroker?
Does your engine have a distributor or does it have the coil-on-plug ignition?
Which intake manifold do you have?

If you haven't already, check out Dino's (Cheromaniac's) links on his signature as well as Eric Zappe's newly released book Jeep Cherokee XJ 1984-2001: Advanced Performance Modifications. Both have a ton of information on building performance 4.0L's and strokers.
