Leaning towards go pro cameras, maybe 5 of them?

Im making a movie. I plan to use my 99 XJ and me driving it for the bulk of the shots. I'll put the summary of the movie on the bottom for those interested. I need to shoot high-def video for this and I need multiple angles inside and out. Im going to test the cameras on a very artsy short film where the driver and passenger dont talk at all, just to get angles right and learn the cameras. Also doing a web series about 4 really dumb people who plan to rob a bank before I make this.

Script is 7/8 written and have cleared junkyard XJ, other vehicle that hits me, fire department, have a production crew and have locations that are deserted in daylight that most would be shocked by. Less the cameras Im in for about $3k. Anyone who posts here will be thanked in the credits and anyone local I may be able to fit in to this.

Summary:
People annoy me all the way to work, gas station, Starbucks, McDonald's then Im driving down the road and some a-hole crosses the line and we almost collide. I make a comment about how everything would be better if I had the roads to myself. That happens. Im cool with it at first but it starts to wear on me. I have the ability to make people appear in my passenger seat but they are distant. I go places there is no one, I try to do things but they fall flat(steal a GTO and more). Eventually a loved one tells me to go back to where it started and once I figure it out I go back to the near miss. Once there Im in my junkyard version of the Red 99 XJ on its side and its smoking and Im knocked out. Fireman pulls me out as I come back. I have learned a lesson at some point.

Go Pros should work great. The only thing I've found with mine is when mounted on the outside of your vehicle, anything that touches the mount or camera will make a loud noise. Wind noise also may be an issue for you. I used my Nikon D3200 to video my girl's dance recital. Bear in mind lighting was crappy but I thought maybe a different lens would have been better but the audio quality was great and once I figured out the focus it worked very well for a fairly inexpensive DLSR. And it takes amazing photos..

I'll keep that in mind, most likely going to shoot audio and video with separate devices. I mostly plan to shoot in daylight as that is the world Im creating for this. I plan to wear a "uniform" while I dive my XJ and record audio/video (just in case I do something that works), sucks cause I work nights but thats what my producer wants for this.

Curious what angles would you like to see for the crash scene?

Through the dusty windshield. Maybe a close up or detail shot of you laying knocked out with the carnage.

I visualized all of that before this post but didnt think about the dusty windshield. That would be an amassing shot! I could pan into it with the blood from my forehead and mouth from there, 91% done.

I've a hero 3+ cracking bits of kit, these are some of the mounts I've fitted. I've got a good range of variations on each with the gooseneck mount.

Sounds pretty cool! I will say with the gopros the wide angle or fish eye appearance doesn't look as good when viewing people and such so i wouldn't use that setting for such scenes. But awesome idea, and i hope it goes well!

Sent via messenger pigeon - i talk, he types.

Pick up a couple RAM Mounts too and you'll be set. When should we expect to see the final product?

Oh yes on the Ram Mounts. I plan to start shooting late spring/early summer 2015. When its done I'll do a live event for this site. Then hopefully someone buys it and I have money to do a bigger project, thinking an offroad trip goes wrong or offroad trip/horror film.

Still need to buy cameras/mounts, musician friend is creating the soundtrack, still waiting for a front hit or complete 97+ to show up at junkyard im working with, then paint it to match mine, got a meeting with a lawyer in 2 weeks about forming my production company, camera testing (the silent short film) and build my website(s). Also have to work some OT and sell some things to make this happen.

Id really like to turn this into "what I do" and I know its a long shot but if you don't chase your dreams you live in regret.

I think this film sounds like a pretty cool idea... One cause I'm sure many have thought the same way, that it'd be nice to be the only one on the road so as to not have to deal with the rest of the dumb a** drivers... so would be cool to see that portion.. And def think the Go Pro's will be your best bet... and if nothing else pick up 1 fish eye lens setup to see if it might come in handy to give an obscure view of some shots, as I think it could be cool to see an obscure view then maybe come into a clear view using standard GoPro view... Look forward to seeing this production..
