So just recently I found out when opening my driver's door, swinging my leg outside and then reaching back across to the passenger seat that the door no longer catches open when it swung back and hit me in the knee.

Is there a quick fix? The '97 I bought and flipped was the same way. I assume it happens to all of them with use, but this is the only vehicle I've experienced this with.

I plan on doing a big project with my doors to make it so I can take them off and fix the wiring gremlins each door seems to have. Figured I could add this to my list once I figure out how to properly fix it. Any suggestions? And if there is a thread about this somewhere just point me to it and chastise my about being too lazy to search :(

Yup, it is common. The door catch mechanism wears out. You have to replace it

Cool beans, thanks. Guess I need to find me a JY with some Cherokees. All the ones I have found close have no Cherokees in them. I guess that is a good sign, they like to stay on the road until there is nothing left of them.

Question. Door catch mechanism, or door latch mechanism.

I would think door catch, but I can't find anything at all parts wise or even article wise on the interwebs.
