I have a hood with a cowl induction scoop on it but msmoorenburg has been letting me borrow a replacement hood for me to work on mine. Needless to say I haven't finished the hood.

I haven't been all that enthusiastic about working on it, because I'm not really happy with the way it looks.

With Greg's recent addition to his TJ a louvered skin I started thinking about something like this for my XJ.

What do you guys think of this?

Keep in mind that what I'm trying to accomplish here is to get the heat out from the engine bay.

Putting the louvers on the TJ was purely for looks. I have learned to live with the fact that a 4.0 with an auto trans is going to run 210 deg no mater what you do to it. My TJ runs 210ish weather its 100 deg or 30 deg out side. After putting these louvers on and driving around this afternoon with the temp being close to 100 deg I saw no major diffrence in the temp maybe 2-5 deg. But I am hoping to see a drop in temp when on the trails going slow. We will see.

That's too bad. Mine is running above 210. Also I am planning on installing the viair compressor under the hood and I'd like to get rid of some of that heat.

Thanks but I've learned that anything that isn't a very big hole (one or combined) in the hood is useless in releasing the heat.

How about this for cowl ind. hoods:

Or this:

But for louvers I am planning on going with ARR louvers for mine because they do not go over the hood supports.

Need to get you some hood louvers like this:

Found this company by mistake one day, and he has some pretty neat items, and they are all hand stamped, not mass produced... Sent an email to ask a question about one of his products and he was very quick to reply to them... Seems to have great customer service and not too bad of pricing on his hood louvers!!

You're not happy with this look ..

Looks fine to me .. ... Thought you had running temps sorted ??

Wish you were closer ... I would like to run it alongside mine and see whats causing your issue.

... probably ... the first thing I would try is an aluminium chequerplate, bash plate ... that would also function as an air dam ??

Keep in mind that what I'm trying to accomplish here is to get the heat out from the engine bay.

When ????

... at slow speeds/idle ... or highway speeds ??

Highway:
Vents at the front,
... or the front, sides ... similiar to the fake, factory, euro XJ vent placement,
... or a bunch of panelbeating to fit vents in the top rear of the guards ... ummm fenders - in texas talk .. :D

Crawling:
Rape the bonnet anywhere ... Heat rises .. ;);)

The only other thing to consider,
... is the adverse effects of low speed vents ... at highway speeds, and,
... the adverse effects of high speed vents ... at crawling speeds.

... aside from aesthetics .. ;);)

If your leaning to the, punched flat vents ... I'd be thinking about the smaller sets ... you really dont need huge holes.

a pair mounted like 4.3LXJ has his front ones ... or the long ones mounted where chrysler stuck the, fake, ones on the euro, Orvis edition XJs.

How about this for cowl ind. hoods:

I like those ... they have that huge uncontrolled airflow area,

... that sits snugly around the 12inch airfilter, sitting on the XJs carburetter .......

ohhhhh .... wait ... what .. ;);) .. :D
