After slicing my hand open with a chisel yesterday. I needed stitched. But I can't afford the hospital. Anyone ever had or done stitches with a light weight fishing string? I know how to stitch myself up. Just wonder about fishing string.

a lightweight monofilament & a hook needle & you should be ok. I've stitched & glued myself many times.

I carry super glue in my EDC, 3 day pack, and pretty much every vehicle I own to "stitch" myself up. Works like a charm.

I have used super glue many times.. I think of as being like a liquid stitch.. I either use it or electrical tape.. And on the very rare occasion.. BOTH!!

You know what works great and heals much faster than stitches is egg shell membrane. You crack open a raw egg and dump it out. Then peel the membrane lining out of the inside of the shell. Lay it over the cut with the slimy side on your skin. Lay down 4-5 layers. Once they dry they act as a sort of splint as well. Every few days you add a layer or two. It will heal in about half the time as with stitches.

my family has raised production layers since i was a wee lad and i've never heard, or tried that before. you have no idea how tempted i am to slice open a body part and slather some egg on me to test it.

in the heat of the moment though i feel safer with a tube of super glue in my pack than a carton of eggs. always nice though to obtain more knowledge on alternative medicines for when the world takes a crap and takes out all the modern conveniences. :)

Yeah, maybe not the best for the field first aid kit. More of a "home" remedy. I've done it serval times and swear by it.

what kind of scar are we talking going with this method?

There is usually considerably less scarring. Which, depending on your outlook, may be a downside to this option.

I kind of figured it would leave much less scarring, and yes that is a downside for me. i'm still like a little boy when it comes to scars. i love them haha

Yeah but question is what the hell will it do to my Cholesterol? Or what if one were a vegan? Oh, I suppose there are other options.
I love how I hurt myself. Start a tread on something as this. And I get the most interesting commentary. It's actually awesome.

Chances are if they were vegan they wouldn't be doing anything dangerous enough to need stitches. don't hear of too many gruesome accidents during yoga and drum circles. :P

As for your cholesterol...i believe the membrane is part of the good cholesterol. seeing as they switch what is good or bad for you in an egg every few years there is no telling if it will be good or bad for you next voting cycle.
