Haynes says 180-200 lbs for a new belt, 140-160 for an old one, 1/2" deflection

Interesting, I thought it was around 110 lbs.

Found this on NAXJA:

New belt gets between 180lbs and 200lbs and 140lbs to 160lbs used, used belt is defined as one that has been run for 15 min or longer.
Pg 7-38 on the 98FSM.

Well a 1/2 inch deflection using the gauge is about 50 lbs torque. The gauge doesn't go over 100lbs so I figure because that's crazy tight. 50 lbs gives me a 1/2 inch deflection. I'm done and that seems to do the trick.

Doesn't that depend more on if you are a 38" waist or a 40" waist ? :smiley-taunt002:

Per the 2000 Full Service Repair Manual the new and old numbers quoted above are correct.
