View Full Version : How far/long have you driven with a tool on your Jeep?

I adjusted the 44" LED light bar the other day. Put a screwdriver down on the cowl and missed it when I was putting tools away.

I didn't notice it until I got home from work. So that means 20 miles to work, 20 miles from work at highway speeds.

It was just laying there, not hooked on anything.

Ratchet and socket on the bumper for a couple of days. Amazing it stayed there. Tools under the hood for weeks

Left my foot long tripod work light under the hood next to the master cylinder while driving around matts shop. Jim(Brasscatz) knows, he's the one who discovered it!

I've driven with a 3" extension w/ 10mm socket on it on the cowl just like your screwdriver.. And I had a socket and extension laying on the roof and it somehow amazingly stayed there on the highway driving to and from work all together 70 miles for each tool.. all at different times, not all at once.. I keep a tad bit (way better) track of all of my tools now.. I value my tools and don't want to loose any of them, nor damage da Jeep!!

About 3 months ago I lost a 3/8 socket under the hood of my 85 dodge pickup about 1500 miles later and on last Tuesday I found it.

Cantab beat me to it...:D

Once though, I had to call out NRMA, a road service mob here, and a few weeks after I was doing a service on the car and found a pair of long handled, offset, long nose pliers, on the intake manifold. Scored.:bacondance:

cheers

Last year I bought a new Leica camera. For whatever reason. I left it on the roof of my Jeep. Drove from East Oakland to Santa Rosa. some 60+ miles and back. Only to get home to find it stuck between sports rack and the roof. I shat myself.

Holy hell if I found my Leica camera stuck on my roof after that kind of trip I'd be going nuts. Those babies are niiiiiiice.

OK, top this. I set a battery powered LED light on the cowl and went wheeling up 29 Switchback Rd. Still there the next day

Oh I did leave a Philips screw driver where the hood latches on my previous XJ. I didn't make 5 miles before it went thru the mechanical fan then the radiator. That was awesome! I'd had pix of that still if someone didn't rob my house.

Discovered this morning I had left my work gloves on my bumper after working on the jeep last night. However I didn't discover this until I had driven to work, a 35 minute drive including driving 65mph on the highway. Thankfully they didn't fall off, those are my favorite gloves, and I'm too cheap to buy new ones!

At $20 a pair, I'll use mine until they turn into shooting gloves! :patriot:

6 years ago just after getting my xj, did some suspension work. front leaf nut weld was gone, cut open frame, used a socket to tighten it, of course i dropped a socket and it still somewhere inside left frame since then :D
