I decided to do this project after reading a little about it on 2 other jeep forums. The primary reason was to get to the spark plugs easier and the secondary reason is I found I could do it cheaper than buying a new coil rail. I researched and bought the viper coil from AM-Autoparts(1AEC100227) for $31.95 with free shipping. I bought the jumper wiring((6806134AA) from factory OEM parts for $26.62. the spark wires came from a late model caravan with a 3.3 engine that was on the end of a row in the junkyard($10.00). When you cut the jumper wire, you have to flip it 180 degrees. Make it whatever length you need. I made mine 30 inches and this worked well for me. The hardest part was making the bracket. I used the overflow bottle post for my attachment. Hooking up the spark plug wires was very simple. Looking at the engine from the from passenger side fender with the coil connector(top left) you have1and 6 on the bottom(1 on the right) middle row you have 2 and 5 with 2 on the right and top row you have 3 and 4 with 3 on the right. The jumper wiring also has an Airtex 1P2041 number. several other coils will work if you read and look at the pictures on the other sites.

Can I ask what this does? And I thought the Viper was a V10?

Basically, this makes it easier for me to get to the individual spark plugs. The old way, you had to remove 4 bolts that held the coil bar on and then pull the whole bar off of all 6 plugs just to get at one. The V10 viper has 2 coils. a 6 pack lead and a 4pack.

also it gets the coil off the head so it won't get hot and go bad sooner also it is a lot easer to keep a sper coil under the seat or any were than trying to find a spot for the coil rail and you can get other hp coils.

I'm CORN-fused. This is a 1998 XJ? I thought 99 was the last year with a distributor.

This was installed in one of my TWO 01 xj"s. Both are blue. My wife drives one and my youngest son the other. I usually drive the teal 98. Hope this solves the confusion.
