Sorry I don't really have any pix to share. But people bring their shitty habits out to the woods and it's really sad. I had to clean up all of our camp sites. Please if you go out, pick up your shit. Including cig butts & plastic bottle caps.
I took the family to Yosemite for a week. The kid did great being only 2. My g/f who is from Sacramento, had never been! Kinda sad I was the 1st person to take her camping 5 years ago.
Did a 16 mile hike to ten lakes with Hans (my rott). Found some killer swimming holes. It rained a little at night.
I stopped by Jamestown bc we have property up there and can pan for gold in the creek. Then went up to Pinecrest for more lake action. I like it better there than Tahoe.
Now I'm being a complete lazy ass. Off to work tomorrow.

Steve, I had to slap it together for this trip. Still has all the old crappy parts on it. I'm still piecing the front axle together.

I know. I still can't get the pinion bolt off :) and I gotta get my gears back from kickass axle (they cryo treated them). I still need inner shaft seals. I have no $ what so ever right now. I'm mooching off the woman right now. I still have to pay someone to setup the R&P.

I thought you were planning a trip back to Iowa in July. Or am I mistaken?

Yeah, I was suppose to. But the fella who stated he would help me out flaked. While he had $800 of my cash and no parts were ordered. It took 6 months for em to say, "uuhhhh well. I'm not going to be able to help out." So he ruined my family vacation. Plus a trip to Oregon.
That's why I had mike Shaffer weld the truss for me. Which worked out great. I made a good contact there.

Been a long time since I have been out to Yosemite. It's just become so crowded since the last time I was there which was back in the 80's. Of course I was out in Yellowstone last fall, for the 1st time in about as long. And that is way too crowded, even in fall. Last time I was there, also in fall, we just about had the place to ourselves. Must be all of us "baby boomers" being empty nesters or retired.

Thanks for the pics !

Funny you mention that. I had a chin wag with a park ranger up in Tuolumne Meadows and he said the foot traffic allow in that area was horrible up until the late 80's. The trails were darn near 20 feet wide. Now there are far fewer park visitors, even fewer backpackers. So the trails have have come back to their normal widths. He stated, if he had to pull a number out of his hat. That visitors are down about 60%.
We didn't have a hard time finding car camping spots. The Valley is always flooded with people. I have my own theories as to why the numbers are low. But I wont go into those details.
When I was in my late teens and throughout my 20's. I backpacked the snot outa that park. I hadn't been there in almost 10 years. But I just don't like seeing how people bring their crappy habits out to such an amazing place. When hiking, I noticed the demographics on the trails were older than I am (i'm 34). When I go camping. I'm pretty minimalist. People had iPads, phones, generators and boomboxes, drinking like they were in college. And who in the hell smokes when in the woods? This is coming from a smoker! I don't smoke at places like this or the beach even. I'm loosing track here and making it sound negative. It really wasn't negative. But it was really interesting to see the shift of 15 years ago. I really don't care for car camping. I love the isolation of backpacking 15 miles in and passing people far and few between. Not possible with a 2 year old (at least for myself). But my kid was a champ! And so was my city slicker g/f. Lots to teach to the family.
My last trip into Tuolumne, I had a bear visit my tent while taking a nap. I damn near shat myself. Not sure what my g/f would do.

She's Ilocano filipino. I'm actually the one that does the cooking. That knife is actually a Buck Kalinga, that my uncle gave to me when I was 13. kalinga is of Ilocano origin. I thought that was a funny when I found all that out. I had no idea.

I guess I have to consider it in the future.

I used to backback up until my mid-40's. Then life got hectic with kid and work. Also all the while being a smoker. I used to smoke on the trail, but at a very reduced rate. Especially in areas like the San Juan Wilderness where elevations get up into the 14's. I have since quite that habit.

When my son was young, he is now 24, he used to go backpacking with us. He did 13mi in one day, and it wasn't just flat ground, before he started Kindergarden. He loved it. Somehow kids in the mid-west don't seem to get into it as much today. Well, that could be related to not having money to do much other than buy beer. So he has as hard time finding anyone to do anything much with, beyond sitting around and drinking.

We are now in a 5th wheel camper, but prefer the National and State parks, or National Forests. Do some trail driving when we get the opportunity.

Not much into the camping at the KOA, type thing, unless it's during driving out or driving home part of the road trip.
