OK, my first problem on my 1997 Cherokee 4.0 since I got it. I had no a/c so I evaced and put in Freon with UV dye because I had a bad feeling about it. I found the leak, it's in the evap. and I would like a recommendation on what brand of evap. and heater core to buy. If I'm going to do all this work I'm doing both while I have it out. Thanks, Dan

I put the Four Seasons brand evaporator core (PN 54188) and the Spectra Premium heater core (PN 93024) in this past April in my 2000 and both have been running great for me. Got them both off Amazon for around $100 total. The evap core included the O-rings.

Thank you for the reply, those are the parts I was looking at on rockauto and your right on the price. This is one job that you only want to do one time. Did you have to take the whole dash out or can the box be dropped without all the work? Dan:bang:

I'd replace heater cord, evap, AND blower motor.

We had to take the dash apart. There's no real good way of doing it. We were able to do it without taking the steering wheel apart though. So the dash was just hanging loose on the drivers side and completely off on the passenger side. Here is the thread from when I was starting this project. Also, here's a link to a clickable PDF of the service manual. We used it to map out the proper order of taking things apart. It was very helpful.

Thanks everybody for the input, it looks like I have my work cut out for me.
I will probably also change the blend door too since I have it apart. Dan
