View Full Version : RUST Galore. are these parts still good?

im in the middle of replacing lots and lots of parts.
98 4dr xj.
could these be sand blasted back to life?
or are these way to far rusted?
i dont do any serious offroading yet or any crawling.
im replacing the ujoints also fyi.

also the large ring thats cracked..it came off pretty easy..can that part be replaced? whats it called

I would say to blast them and see the damage. Its hard to tell the true condition with all that crud on there.

Got easy access to cheap blasting ?? .. worth a try.


Other option is to degrease it all, then dunk it all in a home made electrolysis tank ... and then see if its worth getting blasted ??

i might try the electrolysis.
or buy a blasting cabinet.
the part s calls. axle shaft outer slinger $6.99 for 2

i ended up using a wire wheel on an angle grinder. was like sandblasting it wow but couldnt get into divets.
what a pain to replace the ujoints.
i cant find that part on autozones website. jeep calls it the axle outer slinger?.. its like an abs ring. i dont have abs. could i just go without it?
it looks like keep the wheel bearing clean from the axle side???

You can go without out it. Dont have them on my axles.

Get a big tub and soak them in vinegar for 24-48 hours. Rust will all be gone, even in all the nooks and crannies.
