Help Need Advise "Loud knocking sound"

So I took my jeep out the other day and when I would go up big hills and start to break traction there is a loud knocking sound coming from the under the vehicle? Any ideas what it could be or how to fix this problem? My jeep is 1997 cherokee 4.0l 2 wheel drive automatic.

I was going to say chain in transfer case was slipping, but saw "2 wheel drive" :(

The first thing I would check is the exhaust system, motor and transmission mounts

Engine mount failed, or tranny mount, possibly a bad ujoint or chipped tooth on the ring gear.

Check those u-joints too.
