Hello all!
I have been looking into an XJ for quite some time now but am having trouble learning the basics. Ive been lurking around some forums but cant seem to find a beginners course on the XJ such as what to look for in a used one, problems to watch out for, how to perform basic maintenance, and common rust areas/cures.
Ive found this on craigslist and while the price is a tad higher than others, I may take a shot on it. Any opinions and suggestions are greatly appreciated and I look forward to learning a lot from you all!

Rust is the big thing underneath and in the rocker panels. That one looks like it was well taken care of. Milage is good, it will go another 150K if you maintain it. It has the heavy rear axle in it so that is a plus. Probably going to be hard to find one with no rust in Ohio. But is a tad high on the price

If you're not opposed, it may be worth looking a little ways away to try and find a better area on price and rust.

But that one does look to be in good shape. Better to start with one that's nicer than cheaper and have a ton of money and time tied into it later. Good luck.

Welcome to xjtalk!

I live in Ohio. The jeep looks nice but the price is high. The owner is trying to recoup some of the expense for the extras he put in it. If you really want it, offer $4000 and see his reaction. If he gets defensive, I would look elsewhere.

Hey man, if you are in Ohio try to look a little north. I live in the Lima area and we have a lot of nice ones for $4500 and under. Some really nice ones in the >$3000 range.
