Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for mounting a CB antenna on my XJ? Where should I mount it? What bracket to use? I'm thinking about mounting it opposite my factory radio antenna with this bracket Amazon.com : Firestik SS-174 Stainless Steel Hood/Trunk Channel Mount : Automotive Cb Radios And Scanners : Car Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/217bG78PO7L.@@AMEPARAM@@217bG78PO7L

with a spring mount and a 3' firestik with tunable tip. Good idea? Thank you in advance for any and all advice.

Should be fine. Just make sure the mount has a good clean contact with the fender. Should require some paint removal. Check your SWRs, if they are still high (2.5-3.0) across all channels you might run some ground straps from the fender to the body and the body to the hood, may or may not be required.

I've got the same mount, and basically the same set up.
The mount flexes because of the sheetmetal in the area of the fender where you would mount that is a little thin.... the other issue is that the coax will eventually get pinched and creased, and eventually get worn so bad from hood openings and closing and the bracket moving around that the shielding will get stripped away...that is even AFTER you trim the lip on the hood for clearance.
I have mine mounted with at least 4 screws (i think maybe as many as 6) ...and it still moves around like a mo-fo.....
If i were to do it all over again, (and I will) ... i would choose another option.

I was about to suggest a metal whip antenna, more to match the looks of the factory radio antenna. However, this may also help with the issue Josh described since the fiberglass antenna is heavier and more easily effected by wind and such.

Maybe something like this:
Amazon.com : Browning BR-140 CB Land Mobile Antenna : Automotive Cb Radios And Scanners : Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/318kh0MYJmL.@@AMEPARAM@@318kh0MYJmL

Coax:

Then you could make a simple bracket like this..
Amazon.com : NMO L BRACKET FENDER MOUNT WITH PL-259 CONNECTOR RG-58 CABLE : Two Way Radio Antennas : Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41w%2BSs8NvoL.@@AMEPARAM@@41w%2BSs8NvoL

Thanks for the input you guys! At the risk of sounding like a doofus, what is the benefit of using the above suggested antenna/cable combo vs something like this?
