All of the drive shaft U joints are Spicer 1310s You will need six, as well as a ball and socket for the front CV joint

When you get the CV joint on the front driveline apart, you will see it. It is what makes a CV joint a CV joint. It is also what wears out the most

i know the grand cherokee has the rubber boot cv axle type.

when i look on ebay for 1310 u joints they say "incompatible" for 98 cherokee??

As far as I know, all XJs have the same size U joint on drivelines. The axles are another matter, they are a different size. Also, the front driveline has a double cardan joint, usually referred to as a CV joint. That joint has two 1310 crosses and a ball and socket in-between. I believe the axle joints are a 297.

i think i get it. the joints on the axles(at the hub) are different than driveshaft u joints.
