The only thing I could find was people, or companies, painting the inside portion of the headlight cover black or the same color of the vehicle.

Are you talking about the angry eyes painting of the headlights?? If so, no performance gain at all to it.. but they do look pretty good sometimes with the angry eyes... Was thinking about doing it with my 90, as it'll only be a trail rig and not on the street, so no worry about it blocking any of the light!!

B/c people put more into bs accessories than useful stuff. It's a huge market.

I installed 80/90W bulb and headlight wiring upgrade. The light output is fantastic, headlight aimed little bit lower than normal, but there are some light going upwards. Passing cars switching high/low, demanding to change light and they stay calm when I switch to high beam. I thought the something wrong with my headlight. Then I aimed my light to the wall and made a cover using cardboard. Covering 1/4 from top of headlight, I've seen nice cut off line on the wall. Decided to make a cover there, but still can't decide what design would be effective and not kill my XJ's face

Angry Eyes: (for anyone who is not familiar with them)
I have seen people use plasticoat or tape rather than paint so that it can be removed.

Sleepy eyes go the other way... seen someone do it and it either looks sleepy or cowardly.
Not a XJ, but you get the idea.
