New to XJ Jeeps. The love of my life bought it from a co-worker. It's Purple.
or according to Jeep, Magenta. OMG PURPLE......not a dark, deep purple, a almost pinkish, bright purple. -sigh-. I'll post pics when I get braver.
But it's a blast to drive, seems straightforward to work on, and I think it will all work out. The Redhead likes it. When she's happy, I'm happy. (and healthier ! ;) )

XJ Wheeler, Thank you for the welcome, this site was my choice of XJ forums based on a number of reasons. I usually just lurk and search for the info I need without joining forums. This group, while starting out with only one thing in common (XJ Jeeps) actually seem to be more of a family. Yeah, there is a loose nut here and there, (waving my hand now) but there seems to be really caring spirit here. Read about your Mom and the journey she and you and your brother are on (we are praying for you all) and the outpouring of love and respect from forum members and had to join. Not the only reason, but one of the bigger ones. God Bless. -Joe

04-29-2014, 06:06 PM
Well, 1st & most importantly let us all remember: The Jeep belongs to my wife. I am the fix it guy. (I do drive it occasionally, but wear a full face ski mask...jk)
I also have no real words to say about the color. Except it's PURPLE....sigh...
It is a real honest to goodness factory color. I'll bet they sold like crazy...not. I have noticed the posts have tapered off since the pic.....nobody has been able to stop laughing long enough to type

Purple H

04-29-2014, 06:16 PM
Yes it is purple... But I actually don't think it is all that bad looking.. and if nothing else it is def a rare color... I was thinking about it when I first welcomed you to :xjtalk: that I really don't remember seeing purple XJ's all that often... and trust me, I think I point out just about every XJ that I pass, even if their parked in parking lots... What are you plans for her??

Pookapotamus

Bluedragon, Thank you. I've really not seen anything quite like it either. I can tell you we drive it really safely, Not real hard to pick it out of a line up. As for plans, I first have to replace the Swiss cheese that was once the floor. We have killer road salt here. Have a good neighbor who welds so he will help, and hopefully teach me. Jeep only has 114,000 miles on it, bought it right $$ wise, so it's worth the effort. Then the headliner, the electric door locks, major tune up and chasing awesome gas mileage. This one will probably stay close to stock, because it is Tammys' but I've got the bug now & can see another XJ (NOT PURPLE) in the future.

Purple H
04-29-2014, 06:49 PM
Pookapotamus new wheels would sharpen it up. Red says she wants it stock but then saw the Virginia Frabrication full bumper & fell in love. There might be hope yet!

If nothing else, especially since I see her liking the bumpers... Do a small BB or 3" lift with some decent 31's or so... and the bumper.. will set it off and make it an even more capable rig especially when the winter comes.. And I'd def say that bug is a nice one to have bite... I would say look a little further south for an XJ if you plan to build it any, as one you can get away from the road salt and ocean rust, and two cause people up in the NE want way too much for stock rigs...

04-29-2014, 07:09 PM
I'd drive it lol. I've seen a few of them around and think it's a pretty cool color. If my paint job wasn't in such good condition, I'd repaint it a rarer color... Pook took my idea of yellow and I'd NEVER live it down if I went ANY shade of green....

Purple H

Brasscatz, Green must be another back story. Thanks for the "cool color" comment. Red really likes it, she is drawn to "different" vehicles. Toyota Previa, 80s Jaguar XJ6, etc. etc.
She has kept Mr. Fixit (me) busy....Fortunately I like working on cars / Jeeps.

Purple H

Understand BB, thanks. We are on a budget, I'm sure most can understand. So everything will be thought out carefully and based on priorities. I like your suggestions, Thanks!
I've already replaced hatch lifts,(easy) it amazes me what prior owners will "live" with.
Put in a new fuel tank only to find the leak was in the fuel sender unit. They are made of "unobtainum" lots of vendors show them in stock until I called. Soldered the holes, set the connectors in epoxy, and no more leak. Tank was ready to go anyway, so no loss. Should I / we move this to / start a different thread?

That is up to you. But if you are starting to modify your vehicle, you might want to start a build thread in that section. Maybe "The Rise of the Purple Horny" or something

Some times it means body boost, but not on an xj just like in canada when you see some one refering going to ct it dosen't mean Connecticut it means canadian tire ;)

Pook, I will be taking pictures of the project just for the scrapbook. No reason I couldn't write up a thread. Kinda sorry I didn't take before & after of the fuel module repair. Soldering & Epoxy worked wonders. I will update if / when there is a problem, but for now it's all good.

Purple H
05-02-2014, 10:12 AM
We love garlic around here. Super good tasting & healthy for you. Really seems to reduce the common crud everyone around us seem to get. Don't know if that's because garlic is so healthy, or people give us a wide berth because of the ambiance.
Either way, I'll take it! :)

Cool. Wonder if it was a factory color? You are now cursed to see purple Jeeps everywhere for the rest of your days. Sorry about that.....

Rocco83
05-02-2014, 09:02 PM
I've probably been seeing them for years and just haven't thought about them as they weren't interesting to me. Just like every vehicle I buy I think my color/combination is unique until I'm in that particular vehicle driving. Then I notice that pretty much every third car is exactly the same color/combination as mine.

Now that I've seen your Jeep I'll probably start noticing them everywhere. I know I'm a lot less excited about my white XJ after getting it than I was before buying it. Those things are like cockroaches. Everywhere and they won't go away. I've decided that before I spend for new lift/rim/tires I'm getting a paint job on it with a non-standard somewhat distinctive color.

Purple H
05-02-2014, 09:28 PM

I did notice a lot more XJs on the road since Red got hers. One actually waved at us.

Actually, I like the Jeep. I've gotten past the color because I'm seeing the "cool" in the machine.

I don't care I think garlic is hot lol! Apparently the russians used to use it I think in world war 1 can't remember if it was 1 or 2 but anyways they used it as like an antibiotic because they either didn't have or couldn't afford it I don't remember the piticulars but thays the just of it! When I make garlic bread I just lightly brush the bread with olive oil and then take like 3 or 4 cloves and crush it on one piec lol super garlic!! And when ever a recipie calls for like 3 or four cloves I used like 10 I'm constantly like vampire death!!

Naomi, yeah we're like that too! Can't even order any garlic seafood while we are out, we make it better at home. A garlic onion garlic shrimp and scallops with a garlic butter sauce over rice or pasta, raw tomatoes diced over top, a sprinkle of "Farmer John" cheese, portobello mushrooms or fresh picked morel mushrooms for contrast & ...darn.... now I'm hungry.
