I have a 1998 one. There's an adapter somewhere that plugs into it. I'll have to look. Not sure if the 1998 is the same, of course.

It plugs, or more correctly, mounts, on the little "box" on the hitch bar itself. If you don't have a stock hitch with a "box" you may have to get creative. You can mount it to a plug flange mount (available at ACE hardware in the RV department) or any RV store...or even a hitch shop. Just a hole and four screws

Look at how some other XJ's or other trucks have theirs mounted...you'll get it.

Excellent help! I was lead to believe it mounted to the undercarriage. Now I get it... Thanks!

Yeah, that! It goes on/in sideways...as far as the other end...I dunno. It's weird though with the "disk" in the middle of the harness (looks like a vacuum servo, so I'm confused).

I hear ya on the rubber-disk... I'll have to crawl under and see if I can figure it out

The rubber "disc" is gonna be a body grommet. I guess it goes through the quarter panel near there.

Sent via messenger pigeon - i talk, he types.

its a body grommet the actual harness goes into the body in the left rear. You will have to pull the interior panel to see when the harness plugs into.

There should be a "T" and at the moment in my groggy haze (Allergies) I can't remember if the T is part of the existing wiring harness (behind driver's rear quarter panel) or if the T should have come with the trailer harness.

Took my bumper off yesterday, took these pics. Hope they help even though it's a 99. Let me know if you need/would like others.

Looks to be about the same as my brothers '90 was, but he modified his so i can't compare completely. But my point is its the same era as your waggy so it should be the same.

Now that my head is a bit clearer.... my harness is an after market harness and the trailer harness came with the "T". There is a plug for the taillights behind the drivers rear quarter panel, disconnect the taillights harness from the main body harness. Insert the T from the trailer harness and then reconnect the taillight harness to the "T".

Not sure how the factory harness works.....I would imagine it would be the same, but then again it was too easy so I don't think the factory would have done it that way.

oh and harness, harness, harness, harness....... just incase I didn't say it enough times in the first paragraph.:smiley-taunt002:

The little disc in the middle of the harness is a grommet to seal it all up once you pull the harness through the body to the inside to hook it up to either a T or a box to your factory harness.. On my 90 there was an adapter box that just hooked it to the factory 4 pin trailer plug, then someone ran the remaining wires for the brake controller and such for the full 7 pin harness...
