Has anybody installed a hand throttle in their XJ? I saw it and really want to try it out once I have time in a month. It likely won't be used for crawling, but just to try something new and see how it goes.

How fancy do you want to get?

Great mod to have. I had a simple bike brake cable one in my YJ, and loved it. I used it a ton off/on-road. Opens the door to manual cruise control, no rolling back when starting from a stop on a hill, easier corner taking... the list goes on and on.

Aesthetics isn't an issue, functionality is.

I've read about bike shifters that you can put into friction mode so it doesn't go by clicks, and it can act as a sort of cruise control if you have it tight enough to hold an rpm.
I'm just wondering what parts I'd need, and a rough idea about how to go about hooking it all up to the throttle body.

I have a Teraflex kit installed in my XJ. Wouldn't do without it. Was the first mod I did. You can DIY pretty easy. Like Mike said, Opens the door to manual cruise control, no rolling back when starting from a stop on a hill, easier corner taking... the list goes on and on.... lol but he pretty much nailed it.

And if you have a winch, you can use it to set the idle at 2000rpms when winching. Makes a big difference in winch performance.

It says in the description that it's for TJ and YJs. Did you need to make any adjustments to get it to work on an XJ.

Does anybody use it for daily driving or only on the trail?

No, I had to go through the firewall a little different and find my own route for the cable but the hook up to the TB is the same. I'll get some pics when I go tinker on it tonight. I don't use it much on the road but thats just cuz I don't drive it much on the road.

That'd be great! I found it at a local parts store for $46 all in so I'll go pick it up at the end of the month and get to work.

Got dark on me before I got off work and not tinkering tonight. Sorry. I'll get the pics asap though.

I found this (http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/idaho-jeep-build-600683/index65.html#post9084379) post where another Jeeper made his himself and it ended up costing him ~$13. That's like saving half a tank of gas! I'll try that method and take pictures along the way. I like how I can get my own shifter to style it to my own Jeep.

The cable to the right side of the foot feed cable is where I drilled through & installed a grommet.
