Sometimes people ask on here, how did you learn all that stuff? Well we were cleaning up a shed that belonged to my departed ant and I came across a real relic. I have no idea how it really got there, but I sure recognized it. My first lift kit!

The year was 1968, I was fresh out of high school and attending community college. I had a 68 Bronco with no options, except the 302 V8. In those days, the only way to get a lift kit for a Bronco was to buy a BAJA Bronco from a Los Angeles dealership. And since it had Parnelli Jones name all over it, it didn't go cheap. So I started looking around and found this really neat set of overload coils at .... Kmart. I got my tape measure out and looked at the spring rate and after copious cogitation, I bought them for $14.95. I jacked the rig up in the dorm parking lot and bolted them in and went wheeling to try them out. I went up this big hill, caught big air at the top, landed on the rear axle and KAAAWJAAAANG!, a cheap Chinese gong went off. Really scared me. I thought I might have bent the housing or something. Anyway, I learned my first lesson about bump stops right there. The rest is history.
