I need to identify all my bits and pieces. After I filled out the info about my XJ I thought it would be good to get all that documented before I start. I have a lot of unknowns like the trans, axils, transfer case…

Also, I have some limited air tools, I was looking for a way to spar colored bed liner. I once saw a vendor that had this pre mixed. Not sure I'd be into the roll on. Any thoughts?

Front diff will be a Dana 30. The tcase has a tag on the back with some numbers, the gear ratio 2.71 and the number of the case. Rear diff is a Dana 35 or a Chrysler 8.25. Post us a pic and we can tell you which

So the transfer case is a 231 w/ 272 gears see pick. I've also discovered while under there that the pinion seal in the rear end seems to have gone bye bye :boohoo:

It also appears to have a Chrysler 8.25 rear end. (bummer)

The 8.25 is the better axle. Bigger and stronger.

Just to add, the 8.25 is the 29 spline axle, the stronger of the two

Thanks! I assumed the Dana would have been "more better" :xj-white:

So when I first bought the Jeep it never seemed to heat up. I did some poking around and determined that the thermostat was stuck open. The attached photo is what I found LOL

If it was a D44 it would have been. But those are fairly rare in an XJ
