Anyone ever done or know of a way to add a Comanche Tailgate and Cap accessory to replace the XJ Lift gate like this Photoshopped image http://oi40.tinypic.com/2ch2k35.jpg

Anything is possible with enough time, money and work I suppose. But as far as I know there is no easy way to do it

I found this XJ while driving. He is rocking a "SUT" cut. But the tailgate looks like it fits between late-model taillights perfect.

That would be a Comanche tailgate, artfully fitted of course

Amazing sighting! That one is actually kinda famous. It was built for ARB by AEV back in '98 for SEMA. Its known as the "Africana".

That looks really odd like that, my other idea was to see if I can customize so landcruiser/Patrol barn doors to fit the XJ so I can hard mount my spare wheel so when I need access to my gear in the cargo area which is several times a day, I don't have to open my swing arm every time, Also, the swing arm requires regular maintenance (tightening up after between off road adventures (once a month))

Yeah, i always thought it was pretty cool and ya just don't see companies building XJs to this extreme and unique. It was actually for sale a few months ago, i guess that must be the new owner.

Here is a build I'm following on Jeepforum.....
There's no real "HOW TO" when it comes to a mod like this... .there's a TON of metal fab and body work that has to go into a mod like this.
But with some research and following the cues of what others have done... and of course the time and means, you should be able to knock it out.

Comanche Tail Gate was used on this one:

I think his plan was to use CJ hinges.

And the plan for the cut:

(as it sits now - i think)

If your interested in his build (its a good read - he's done some nice stuff), you can check out the rest here: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/98-green-xj-daily-driver-build-996260/

And is now owned by a guy who goes by "Cherokeehunter23" on Cherokeeforum.
Here is his "making it my own" build thread:

...although why he ditched the awesome AEV wheels is beyond me.

Good to know. I agree, those wheels were pretty nice. Plus it just seems wrong to change a rig like that, would be cool if it stayed the same.

to go to the other end of the vehicle for a tick, bonnets or hoods as north Americans would say, any custom mod idea's? A Bloke I know made his own, looks pretty good, been trying to ask him to do one for me.. basically he took some cheap vents, cut the holes for in his bonnet then fiberglassed the entire thing..https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/t1.0-9/10172792_1410601579203754_463194588_n.jpg

and this one is mine, but I will get another bonnet and install one like on the HMMWV (Humvee)

Dang, well I'll let my buddy know about the Africana. He said he took the picture in a small town east of Tucson AZ. He said it was way nice in person. I guess you never know what you'll find out on the road.
