We my non jeep project for the last couple of weekends has been this 07 escape that was given to me, http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12/12/ec46a69881b7f7ff4c832719f498d3d3.jpg

Fully loaded, leather and sunroof, but the tranny was done, finally got the tranny out

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12/12/26930fa71c8a27f0b32c76faa159a48d.jpg

Then I found this deep, deep inside the tranny!

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12/12/6df7a2524fdbda0e6a0b99c85084c4b7.jpg

Will have to replace the parts on both sides but so far I'm sitting around $1100 in parts good price to pay for an 07 escape for the wife!

Took it to the stealership to have the oil changed, as well as to have them look at the front passenger brake.. It's been squeaking since they changed the front brakes, and I had them look at it the last time it was in, and they said it was just a slight hard spot on the pad and would be fine... but had the passenger front grab the other day when it was raining and pull me a bit that way, luckily I was awake and paying attention... Either way, this time I asked them to look at it again, one cause the squeaking has gotten worse, and two mainly cause of the "locking" up... got a little one coming, definitely don't need no jacked up brakes... and now I apparently my front calipers are shot, and need new pads & rotors turned... I'm going to see if I can't get out of paint for the pads, cause this could have been caught and avoided the first time I brought it back in three days after having the brakes done to get this looked at... but either way.. at least I'll know my brakes will be good to go... Now to get the parts for the back brakes on the XJ!!!

Well, the father in law bought me a nice 12" compound miter saw for Christmas and I was going to use today to build a baby gate for our stairs. I had a 4 day weekend and got sick and left work early Wednesday. I'm feeling slightly better, but now the wife is sick, so my buddy that was coming by to help rip some wood can't come and I'm taking care of my girls. Maybe I'll be able to get out there and get a few things done or maybe rake up some leaves or something.

Don't like the look of it without the tint (not as clean looking).. not to mention sun shinning in through the side window was giving me a headache just for the short bit I drove it today (which was the main reason I tinted it in the first place)...

My backs been feeling better so I'm getting to a few small projects that have been back burnered for a long time.

Today started installing this in the boat. Very cool amp. 900 watt, 6 channels. Arc Audio 900.6. I can throw 550 watts to a sub and 100 to four components
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160329/471db3dd9c83d80c8e301022c10a8454.jpg
Sweet amp with a ton of configurations for a system. It's a brick though, almost 20" long. Pulled most the wire and got a few speakers put in. Don't even have the sub yet. Thinking kicker solobaric in 12 inch. I said my next sub was a 15, but I can't really drive one with this amp and definitely don't have room for it and the correct box

My youngest hit a median at speed (40ish) and blew out two tires in the process. Well the camber was messed up on the driver's front. We didn't know this but figure since nothing seemed bent or broken an alignment would probably take care of it, or they would tell us what needed to be fixed.

The told us. $1750, alignment included!!!

I ordered all the parts on their list (about $977 of parts) from Amazon. Shock/strut, ball joints, sway bar links, lower control arm. I saw a torn boot on the TRE for the tie rods so I figured I'd replace those too. I got everything, 2 day shipping, for $400.

I spent from 2pm to 7pm working on the driver's side. I replace all those items listed above. It was really simple the only hard work was hand cranking the ball joint press that last 1/4" of an inch for the ball joint.

I found in the process, that the lower control arm (they call it that but there is only one) was bent and torn. This must have been what was causing the camber problem.

I decided I would order another lower control arm for the passenger's side before tackling it. I wasn't doing the other side that day anyway!

I need an impact tool powerful enough to push that ball joint all the way in. What do I need in ft/lbs?

So for those of you following along here that are bad at math, Firestone did a 50%+ mark up on parts, then added another $600 to $700 for labor. The labor I'm more understanding about, but not the mark up on the parts!

Mine will do it. It is supposed to do 300# I think, but that depends on the air pressure going to it. That rating is at 100# pressure. If you feed it 175# it will get positively angry. But I have pressed ball joints in with the lower pressure

Tony, I've been searching for a decent quality impact wrench for a while now and I keep getting pushed back to this one from Harbor Freight. I've only heard good things about this one wherever I've looked.

http://www.harborfreight.com/12-in-professional-air-impact-wrench-68424.html

You'll be hard pressed to find another 1/2'' impact with 700 ft/lbs torque within $200 of the regular price of this one. When I have the extra money, I'm definitely going to be picking one up to replace my wimpy Husky one from Home Depot.

Also if you order online, use coupon code 44318855 to get 20% off. It's a coupon from Four Wheeler magazine that's good until 8/8/16. You might be able to use it in store without having a print copy of it and save the $7 shipping. Either way you'll be getting a powerful 1/2'' impact for less than $90.

Probably depends on how they source their parts. A $70 crank sensor from RockAuto can cost me up to $350+, from an aussie parts store.

Importer gets it in, Wholesaler gets hold of it and maybe repackages it, then maybe another wholesaler gets involved, then the retailer plonks it on the shelf ...

... and all the while theres additional handling & freight costs, and taxes piling up on top of the original price.

Way too many "middlemen", in the retail game these days.

Both are around the same price and same ft/lbs. I've been pleased with the kobalt hand tools I've got. Also, my closest hf is over 30 minutes away, where's I have a lowes 5 miles from me. That helps, but only for me. If you get either, let us know how you like it. My brother got me a cheap hf 250ft/lbs impact for my compressor and it struggles with lugnuts. Cranking it up to 115~ psi helps though.

I absolutely loathe firestone. A few stories...

We've had them cover new front brakes in grease, causing difficulty stopping as well as smoking from the front end under braking. They did not want to fix it.

A long whole back, my brothers 90 xj was overheating so we took it in to have them check it out. Came back wanting to change most of the cooling system for over $900. The usual parts cost for that stuff would probably come to just over $200. And it's not hard to do.

Our 94 Chevy had a headlight switch go bonkers. So, had them change it out. Not sure why but they mentioned something was wrong with the transmission, which had been giving us no issues. Next day it wouldn't move, being it was low on fluid.

After my grandma passed away we were working on fixing here Malibus windows (neither front window worked). The passenger side did in fact not work, but once I took off the drivers door panel I noticed something. The window motor connector was unplugged. Plugged it in and it worked perfectly. Now this was a 73 year old widow, with cardiac disease, in houston where it's commonly 100 or more degrees and her ac didn't work. If they did that on purpose just to get her to come back so they could "fix" it... I hope the burn feels reeeeeal good. [emoji35]

Also, having their tires on one of our trucks I compared one of the heavy duty truck tires to a bfg at in the same size and rating. HUGE difference. The sidewall felt 2-3 times more sturdy on the bfg. The firestone was very flimsy. I could nearly fold the sidewall over onto itself and the tread wore uneven.

These are stories from several stores in different cities. I'm guessing they just have that shyster type policy.

I won't go back....

That helps, but only for me. If you get either, let us know how you like it. My brother got me a cheap hf 250ft/lbs impact for my compressor and it struggles with lugnuts. Cranking it up to 115~ psi helps though.

Sent via messenger pigeon. I talk, he types.

Cool, thank for sharing that Kobalt impact! I hadn't seen that one yet. That one sure looks nicer than the HF one and has a 3 year warranty compared to the HF 3 month.

I need an impact tool powerful enough to push that ball joint all the way in. What do I need in ft/lbs?

You may already be doing this but when I did my ball joints I got a tip to use a hammer to hit the metal surrounding the ball joint (the axle c's on the jeep in my case). Did that while keeping constant pressure on the ball joint press, tap it real good and it would press in a bit farther and i could crank the press down a bit more. Rinse and repeat until it's pressed into place. Just doing that made pressing in ball joints much, much easier for me, pressing them in was actually the quickest part of the whole thing once i started doing that!

Got the Renegade to Clearwater. Oh how I have fallen in love with it. Right now a Panamera is parked behind it, an ugly newish Buick convertible next to it. It may not have the curb appeal of the Porsche but it may be my number 2 choice in this lot. I don't know cause they won't let me test drive them fancy German cars.

Not exactly to the Jeep, but for the Jeep. Good things come to those who wait. It has taken me a year to track a guy down and get together with him. Far too many drugs in his youth I think. But anyway he is a Scout lover and had been been hit by a semi and did an endo in this Scout without roll bar or hard top. IIRC he wasn't wearing a seat belt either.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/warriorsuspension/Build%20Stuff/IMG_1866_zpsbkqvcn1t.jpg

Took me an hour and a half to get this on the trailer by hand. But it was worth it. Because I got these D44 axles cheap.

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/warriorsuspension/Build%20Stuff/IMG_1873_zpsvv1vacih.jpg

Good news is that they are the same width as the XJ and the same gear ratio I have now. So I can put them in one at a time. However, they need updating badly since they are 70s axles. So I will be nickel and diming that as I adapt the WJ brakes front and rear with a true high steer for the front and a unique brake line solution. But I will be good to get back to old school again with locking hubs and get rid of the unit bearings.

And to top it off, I have a good start already with this:

http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/uu215/warriorsuspension/Build%20Stuff/IMG_1874_zpsyaqq5nus.jpg

Two Spartan lockers for them. I got these FREE :D I support a website called Where 2 Wheel. They have a raffle once a year and award points towards their raffle by participating in the daily feed. I got second prize last year - a Bubba rope worth $125. This year I won a $500 gift certificate and used it to get two lockers for the axles.

So.....the 2003 Explorer....for those that don't know, this particular Explorer actually gets driven off-road, we took it to Colorado and Utah, and I drove it around some of the trails in Moab, so my wife is proud of her non-typical "mommobile".

Anyway, this Explorer currently has 217K on the odometer, and has generally been well maintained. Given the idiotic design of the timing chains, we pulled the engine and replaced all three, guides, etc last year (yes, you have to pull the engine to access the rear timing chain) to avoid major problems and keep the miles rolling. So in November, right after I check the cooling system for the antifreeze mix, I notice a leak....out comes the radiator tester, pump up the pressure, looks like the plastic thermostat housing is suspect again...fine, order one...the next day, the leak is worse...middle of week, I don't have indoor workspace at moment, call my neighbor who is a professional mechanic running a shop on his property, and call in a favor after he borrowed some tractor implements for a few weeks.

He calls me later that afternoon...besides the housing looks like a freeze plug has given up, and the water pump weep hole is drooling, fine, track it down we'll fix it, water pump should be under warranty.

He calls on my drive home, we need to pull the motor, as 5 freeze plugs have let go, and a head gasket is leaking...:bang:...well, over 200K miles, the head bolts have probably loosened, fresh set of head gaskets are not a bad idea, but have to pull engine for the stupid timing chains, get the heads checked.

So we do that, and some good news, the motor is clean inside, running synthetic oil has really paid off, and I decide to change the oil pump to a new one. So we get the heads back and re-assemble, neighbor triple checks the timing marks, and put the motor back in, with the oil pump primed...my neighbor will fire it up the next day.

I get a phone call from my neighbor, he's almost in tears...he started the motor, but it jumped time, he killed it almost instantly, but we both knew damage was done...he was going to pay for the replacement parts since he turned the key and he checked the timing, but I said lets pull the motor and see what happened.:bang:

So out comes that 4.0 the 2nd time, and he insists on turning away new work to figure out what happened. He calls while I am at work, got three bent valves, light marks on the pistons..but he found what happened...the "new" timing chain kit installed earlier had a tensioner come apart, which made it jump time...glad that it was not our work...but dang...and of course, they just wanted to warranty the single failed component....we fought that and got a new kit...but had to get gaskets, bolts, etc AGAIN, valves and I wanted both heads checked again. So assemble everything again, motor goes back in...this time, it starts and runs, but no power...??? timing looks fine, no codes, spark, fuel, but no power? Compression test the cylinders, all six measured the same....out comes the motor again, 3rd time...we are staring at the motor laid out in the floor again, and my neighbor is looking at the engine camshafts, and being bugged about how they don't look right...I look close at the cams...and they are pressed together!!...lobes and spacers pressed on! The lobes moved when the valves hit! I have to go to work, he starts calling...nobody has specs on the cam lobe arrangement for us to check against....so $300+ later, we have two Motorcraft cams, more $$, time, and gaskets, quadruple check of the timing marks, and we are lowering that 4.0 back in the Explorer again. Cross fingers during cranking, it's alive!!! Has power again, but a stumble...we just did the plugs three months ago, no codes...now what? In hoping for a blessing from Henry Ford, I order Motorcraft plugs, and start pulling them...whew, found one black instead of tan, here's hoping. Fresh, gapped plugs, coolant check, oil checked, no codes, one more time.....it's running smooth, even quieter than before, with even better oil pressure thanks to the new pump. But I hope to never do that again. Ever. I'll convert it to a 4BT diesel before I spend that much time on that stupid three timing chain design again.

Glad you got the Exploder back together and running the roads and trails... I think a 4BT Explorer would be awesome, and would definitely be more of a non-typical rig!! From what I gather the Ford 4.0 is a constant battle for dumb stuff like that..

I know I have been optimistic about Explorers, especially this 3rd generation one, but this was ridiculous. It easily could have been worse, if it had jumped time while my wife was driving it, for example, but dang.

Driving back from Rockford today I was taking some very rural back roads down the middle of northern Illinois. While avoiding the gendarmes I came across a working short bed FC Jeep & a Kaiser Manhattan - both plated & looked like they had been driven recently. These were definitely not pristine show cars. The metal munching moon mice had been joined by the rust monster. Swiss cheese sheet metal. From the looks of the place and the signage, it had been a Kaiser dealership, and these were the dealer/owner's vehicles. A peak in the open shop door revealed a leap into the past. I will be going back with a camera. Inside were pristine cars from the late forties & early fifties. Probably been sitting there since the owner shuttered the place. The FC was the shop's tow truck & plow, with the lettering kind of faded. Ive been around the car biz since the early/mid sixties, I had never seen any of these cars in the 'wild' except for FC's. The dealer stickers matched the sign built into the brickwork of the building. I may have to raid the 401k & mortgage the house. Photos to follow this coming weekend.

Look forward to seeing pics of that place.. Love the old school Kaiser rides.. Wonder if the guy might let the FC & Manhattan go to a new home to let them be able to be rebuilt and given new life?!!.. Always sad to see them go to waste.. but at least these seem to still be taken care of, loved and used.. even if the times have gotten the best of them..

I found another FC on CL today. Will be looking at it tomorrow. The KFs will be tomorrow or by the weekend.

I think the Manhattan is the owner's DD and the FC is still used as the plow. Both have current plates & the plow rig is a Western. Not what I expected. When the FC was new, things like a plow or a winch were powered by an engine driven or PTO driven hydraulic pump. I'm hoping to find out more during the week.

It was like entering a time warp when I stumbled upon this place. I had passed a nice little home in a wooded yard that was for sale & I turned off on a nearby side road to turn around & take a look. I got distracted by the FC down the side road, and when I got close, I was kind of awestruck by the old building. Never did get back to look at the house. Will post a link to the photos after I get back. Probably by the weekend.

Took a look at the CL FC this afternoon. Boy was it rough! But the frame was still intact, engine ran good (L head 4 cyl 134cid), and it drove. This thing had been plowing snow and doing landscaping before it was retired (this winter). Had a beer keg for a fuel tank and some random fleetside pick up bed dropped on the frame. Most of the floor of the cab had been replaced w/sheet aluminum (thin, soft) and the steel looked like a lace curtain in spots. Very grim. Its going to a good home, just not mine.

Hopefully she'll be brought back to life @ her new home... Not sure that bed/camper combo would have been the one I would have chosen.. but hey.. it worked for their needs apparently...

Seller reports that he has several collectors interested. They are due to inspect/buy this weekend. The vehicle has no title, but the original owner is still alive & available, and this would be the first title transfer since manufacture. Thus re-issuing a title is do-able with the IL SoS. They can re-issue a replacement title, just takes time, money, and some additional paperwork. Because all of the glass is intact and the trim pieces/medallions, etc are all still attached a restoration is do-able. The chassis is intact, and appears to be in robust condition.

Washed the Ram, and finally worked on removing the road paint, as much of it as I could anyways.. it's been on there since I went through a road work zone, where there was no signs about fresh paint.. and none of the road looked like it had any new paint on it... and that was almost three years ago... haven't had the time to just work on it, little by little... especially after a fresh wash.... so I don't scrap dirt all over the paint while working to remove the road paint.. still got a little bit left on the outside... and quite a bit in both of the drivers side fenders.. but I'm not as worried about in the fenders as I am the side of the truck.. and finally had the time to actually work on "detailing" the interior, for the first time in way too long... Hoping to work on the interior a bit more tomorrow, like vacuuming it out, and cleaning the rear seating area.. Then all I'll have left is to "carpet" clean the seats once the weather warms back up, to where I can leave it open for a bit to dry out...

Yes, abe, this is a different FC. The K-F dealership is on my to-do list for this weekend. It's blowing snow right now, so I expect the doors to be closed. But, you never know. I should have photo's later today.

BTW what are the odds of stumbling across two FC's in one week?

Snow stopped, didn't stick. Doors closed. Talked w/owner. He is surviving family member of the original owners. This was a rural Chevy dealership. The place has several Kaisers inside (one of each year). These are the two outside, a FC, and a Manhattan (55). The Manhattan was custom built by & for a company exec as the company was ending domestic production. The family started buying Kaisers after the company moved production out of the US. The cars are inside with the exception of a Henry J wreck, and the the two Kaisers outside. The FC (a Kaiser Jeep) was purchased from the original owner as the shop owner needed a plow. He uses it every time it snows. As I was coming home after this meeting, I had to pull over in another rural town to take a call. As I was finishing the call I looked out my passenger window, and saw an old Packard inside the building I had parked in front of. Those photos will show up later. I'm going back during the day.

Correction on the FC power plant. This model used an 'F' head 134, not an 'L' head. In other words the engines are as follows: 'L' has both intake & exhaust valves in the block, ie: flathead (Go Devil engine); where as the 'F' head (Hurricane engine) has one valve (intake) in the head (overhead valve) and the other in the block (exhaust). The long wheelbase FC (FC-170) used a 6 cylinder engine. According to Wikipedia, Willys Overland & Kaiser only made 30,000 total of the stateside civilian FC's (FC 150 & FC 170).

bluedragon436

That's awesome.. I've never gotten the privilege of seeing an FC in person.. but also never knew there was a difference between FC's... I guess I didn't know there was a short and a long wheelbase version.. I knew that there was one with 4 cyl. and one with 6cyl... guess I should have figured there was something different other than just the engine size.. Either way.. both of those rides would be awesome to see cleaned up and brought back up..

Cleaning out my camera's storage I came across this photo. Last fall I stumbled over this tow truck at a warehouse near my work site. This thing is plated & driven regularly to this warehouse. They store a collector's toys in the warehouse. I'll try to get in & get some pics. The guy collects old cars, not beauty queens, just old daily drivers.

The tow truck is certainly better looking than tonight's nightmare. I hate old muddy tractors. They always blow a hose either inside a frame rail or underneath (this pile of scrap did both), all packed in mud & crud, greasy as all get out, dripping in your face while you are trying to get it apart. Yes, normally I'd power wash it before starting, but it was snowing when I pulled it in. It's around 45 tonight, but still to cold.

Glad you guys were able to catch that the oil plug was loose, before it caused any damage.. so you can still enjoy ripping around, and not having to rip it apart to rebuild or replace parts/engine... That's why I always have to go back and check and recheck over and over again when I get done doing stuff on the XJ (or really anything I'm working on)... especially if it's been a while I've been working on it.. or a bunch of work done... to make sure I didn't miss anything random in my haste to get her running and enjoy her!!

Alpine INE-W940 is the one that met an early demise.. INE-W960HDMI is the one that replaced it... It was supposed to be mailed to me arriving roughly Wed or Thur.... got a call this morning, that it had been dropped shipped to the store I ordered it from instead of shipped out to me... and was ready for pickup if I wanted, or they could mail it out to me... I was like.. yeah... I'll be there in 20 minutes... so just go in from that fiasco... because there are some things that aren't the same between the old and the new unit as far as wiring... so had to clip out the old harnesses... and splice in the new... not usually a huge big ordeal.. until you are dealing with a harness that has like 6 boxes involved with it... not sure how I managed to make it an easy/clear wiring harness the first time I did it... other than I did it in about three days... whereas this time I did it in a few hours... lol... either way it's in, and all working... and will take some getting used to for sure... but hopefully will be far better than the last one... seems way better already.. but only time will tell..

looks like a solid HU

Yeah, so far on the limited time I've messed with it.. I certainly like it better than the last one.. I still hate that it has the usual huge jump up in volume between 2 and 3 setting... but apparently that is just a common Alpine thing, as my old HU did it, the one in my XJ does it, and this one does it... When I called them to talk to them about the issues I was having with my old HU in the Ram, I asked about this... and they said it was a programming thing... seems to me it's a programming thing that needs to be reprogramed... it is like going from volume level 2 to volume love 5... not really a killer deal.. but is when the little one is in the XJ or Truck... especially the truck with 2 12" Type R subs right under her... but I keep the bass pretty low when she's in the truck anyways.. just kind of killer when you want to enjoy music and she's asleep... But yeah, so far I like it... we'll see how it does this weekend using the navigation... It's the same basic UI, but supposedly far better... and that is one of the biggest issues I had with the old unit... besides the cracked screen after I got fed up with it's shenanigans last weekend... lol

BigJim.. The Taco and the Stang are both looking good... Are you going to build sliders for the Taco with the little kickout prior to the rear tires?? A few years back when I was looking at picking up a Taco... I had seen a few sliders that had the kick out before the rear tire, that way if you were sliding on anything it'd move you out prior to the rear tire hitting it, seen similar for rear bumpers too.. Seemed like a pretty nice design to me.. Can't remember the exact company I saw it, that made it..

Was out in my backyard by the area we park our jeeps, talking to my brother about his 8.8 swap and out of nowhere a loud hiss starts. I just thought it was the compressor line/valve/connection got a leak since he had it out and full, blasting the axle. But my ears told me otherwise as it was coming from the direction of our flatbed. Walked over to look across because its in the driveway and check to see if anyone was messing with it and didn't see anything so we go around and the darndest thing. The valve stem gave out... just setting in the driveway... with no one near it. I understand this can happen, although I never have seen it myself, I surely would think on the road would be the more likely place to happen. I mean, this truck is driven a lot. Probably moves more than it sets these days, and loaded down heavy some too. Just seems weird of all times for it to go, would be after setting overnight with no extra heat or pressure on it. Not that I'm not grateful it didn't happen on the highway! Anyway, pulled it off, threw it in the jeep, and spent the day at the tire shop. Back to 70psi and rolling!

The 2003 Honda Civic that we got for our youngest has been throwing a code for CPS.

I was concerned the timing belt might be the issue.

Finally only about a mile from the house it would start run 5 seconds and shut off.

I looked up the symptoms, and found that the cam position sensor is used in starting but the crank position sensor is used to keep it running.

Quick fix, disconnect the CPS. I drove over to the store parking lot where my daughter was disconnected the CPS and a couple of tries the honda started and she drove it home where we left it until I could get a CPS.

I checked on OReily's, $79.95, I checked on Amazon $33. Neither were Honda, and at least Amazon has reviews, so I saved $40. I did have to wait for it to come in though, which was fine since I didn't feel like working on the Honda, or doing something new.

I watched a very good youtube video on it.

Last night part came in so time to bust and move.

Taking the timing cover off was a pain. They don't tell you that the upper cover needs to be pried forward so you can get the timing cover off. There was enough room with it hanging there for me to replace the CPS but the timing cover gasket was NOT lining back up. Otherwise I probably would have taken it off.

Well MOTHER F**KER! That cheap ass, and I'm talking $22 from HONDA timing cover was broken and the gasket was torn and frankly I can't see that it's even the right gasket.

I started to get a cover and a gasket when I ordered the CPS but we haven't had any other issues, like oil leaks, etc...

I used some RTV to get the gasket to start in place and got it back on the Honda.

All buttoned up and started/ran great. Quick start, good sign, kept running at 5 seconds, even better sign.

So I went back to Amazon and ordered a Genuine Honda timing cover and gasket.

Just amazes me what some people will do. Other than breaking the harmonic balancer bolt lose the hardest part of the job is removing the power steering unit and belts, which isn't that big a deal.

The Honda is different but it is very easy to work on, at least the stuff I've done so far.

Right! My first thought.

Glad the Honda wasn't too bad to fix. Finding room to work in those front wheel drive cars is tough. Makes you appreciate an old truck with enough room to throw a party.

Finally sold the civic, making a $3200 profit which paid for the Tahoe and several goodies for it, and then some!

Yesterday while driving to a roof repair I start hearing a bad grinding from the brakes. Matt said he changed the front 20k miles ago, so in thinking rear, but I bought both front and rear to be safe. Glad I did, cuz the rear was fine and I guess grandma was a firm believer in riding the brakes...

Oh well, it's back on the road and some goodies came in on order for the Tahoe. Got an android radio, backup camera, still waiting on my double din dash, soldering iron, heat shrink tubing, etc.

Researched some more on the install of the leveling kit I have for my 09 Ram, as well as what tire size I can run on my stock rims, that will fill in the wheel wells nicely after the leveling kit... especially since my current tires (the ones that have been on there since I bought it) are getting pretty worn out... and want to get something with a bit more aggressive look for replacement...

Also have been doing more and more research on the parts needed and keeping an eye out for those parts as well as the engine/transmission needed for an upgrade swap into my MR-S.. But at the same time kind of torn about doing the swap or selling it for either a Harley, picking up another car that I can enjoy driving and build up a bit... and be a family car at the same time... or just sell it and put that money into the XJ build...

I've been busy on the Tahoe four quite a while. The last time I installed a radio was in the Jeep, maybe 6 years ago? I used butt-end connectors in the jeep. Before that? I think the radio in my old pickup truck about 15 years ago, and I might've even used wire nuts for several connections, lol.

THIS time I learned to solder and did it right! There were only 2 times that I forgot to put the heat shrink tubing on prior to soldering, so those got taped.

Anyways, radio mostly installed (still have cutting to do behind it for better fitment) dash installed, backup camera installed and new door lock actuators on the front doors. Got to use my rivet gun finally for those.

Interior trim paint is ordered for the dash as well as an alarm system with remote start.

Technically, this one didn't either. It's a 1.5 DIN OEM setup. The new dash was ordered off Ebay for a hefty price tag, but I wanted it to look as professional as possible. This is in without any cutting, but sticks out quite a bit. And I broke the tabs off the climiate controls, so unless I can screw it in I'll be picking up a new one of those as well.

I don't have any clips on the dash panel because I need to fit the radio properly and paint the bezel. But this is as far back as it'll go. notice the space at the climate controls. Also, there's a pocket that I need to install in the slot under them, but again I'm waiting until I've tied up the loose ends. I'm also considering running a usb port somewhere, but I haven't decided that yet.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170709/ed64cf7068bb7b68c9c44d17e551c75e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170709/06d4760ce1cb779b15ccfeaa5a7992f5.jpg

I ended up with a rotted through shackle on the truck when we were up North this weekend. It rotted away and the leaf spring smacked the underside of the box. Apparently this is a common ford issue, so I ordered up some new shackles last night, and they should be here tomorrow.

At least it didnt happen when we were hauling the jeep or pulling the camper. We ended up shoving a 2x4 between the box and leaf spring to get me home, so that the leaf spring didnt rub though the box.....

Wish I could find myself a half way decent DubJay to build up... well let me rephrase that... half way decent that isn't almost as much as a Wrangler...

Have been doing too much to my non-Jeep ride... Have done an intake, tuner with tune for the intake, full cutback exhaust and finally got it tinted... Now to get some of the windows re-tinted since they have some issues... Oh and replaced the crap stereo with a much better sounding unit... Can't wait to get around to replacing that one with the newer one I bought for it last month... And even more so to eventually add a bit of low end to it...
