So last weekend I traded Matt a car for a boat trailer. Some of you may say "A car for a boat trailer?!?! Matt ripped you off" Well yall didnt see the car. Was a pretty even trade. Trailer was in pretty good shape. So I decided to build me a utility type trailer. Since my welding machine is not working, nor do i like welding on galvanized steel, I decided to build it without any welding. Here is a pic after i stripped all the boat brackets off of it....and the boat too.

You may notice that the crossmembers are v'd down in the center. So I bolted a 4x4 down to them, then screwed down a 1x4 on top of that to bring it up even with the frame rails.

I then screwed 2x6 wood crossmembers every 18". On the frame rails I used #12 TEK screws and fastened them to the center post using deck screws. I then screwed 2x10's to those crossmembers to make my deck.

Being a boat trailer, the tongue was way too long.

I cut about 2' off of the tongue, then bolted on a new hitch. Also relocated the trailer jack that came on it.

I also put on new lights and new wiring. Thats all I have done for now. Stay tuned for updates. Plans are to build some ramps for it, put on some tiedown points and maybe build some sides. So far I have about $150 in it. Not bad for a decent 6'x12' trailer.
