4589Well, the rear bumper came, it connects to the stock locations, along with the frame the way you would attach a trailer hitch, welds look solid (i loaded this one upside down we will see if it comes out correct)

Sorry if im not supposed to link

Bumper looks good.. and glad it has the frame tie in points, not just the factory mount locations...

mattyblazer
02-18-2014, 05:28 PM
The bumper also came with Nates version of a nut strip, very serious looking with hardened carriage bolts.
I'm excited to get this stuff on the Jeep, it hasnt stopped snowing here for weeks, between that and the cold I'm not doing anything yet.

Those bumpers must be expensive, since they defy gravity. At least they won't stress the mounts.

No plans for a tire mount ?

Don't feel bad... I'm still learning the picture sharing... and even more so my Macbook Pro... As much as I miss being at home where I can get stuff to done with my truck and other stuff... but am glad to be able to avoid dealing with the snow anymore then I already have..

Have you tried standing on your head while taking the picture?

mattyblazer

I didnt try that, I uploaded that snow pic right side up, and up side down, and they all come out like that

May I suggest creating a photobucket account and posting the IMG link in here? It's a bit easier that way and you can upload more pics and don't have to worry about file size.

Brasscatz

Alrighty, I saved them to my computer, flipped them, then reuploaded them for ya. But yeah, photobucket is probably your best bet. If they upload upside down to P.B., you can flip them right there. Hope that helps ya

Did you take those with a cell phone? If you did, the phone cannot be sideways or upside down.

I think I'm going to try and keep the factory plastics from the stock rear bumper

Brasscatz

Depends what route you want to go. I used Plasti-Dip and it's lasted 2 years. It's definitely not temporary since it's a rubberized coating that you can peel off. Other than that, you can pick up a few cans of spray on bedliner for around $7 a can. Good stuff.

I changed the door with a better one, and beat the dent out from the inside, and underneath, new plastic around the wheel well, and its presentable (well a far cry better than what it was)

That's a nice looking bumper... especially with the end caps installed... to bad it doesn't fill the openings better.. but I guess they didn't really design it to be used with the end caps.. Can't wait to order bumpers for my XJ!!

Clearly not designed with them in mind, I will fabricate something more permanant but the idea of just leaving unmatching paint and rust spots didn't do it for me

I've talked to him a couple times, just never had the $315 for a bumper direct from him. Now that I know I can get the same one for $215, I'll be ordering one, ASAP. Thanks for the link. That $100 saved will help with a front nates4x4bumper.

That is kind of what I'm looking for in a rear bumper. My only concern is how much I could tow with something like that. With the pin attach point leaving that much of the ball mount out. If you were tongue heavy that seems like it would be a lot of stress.

I know XJs aren't exactly meant to haul hay wagons, but if I had a need to move something heavy that seems sketchy.

it attaches to the same place as any reese/ uhaul etc hitch receiver. in addition to that the bumper bolts are holding it, the only difference there should be is that the receiver is 3 inches higher, I'm no expert but with boats on trailers if you are tongue heavy the balance is wrong

XJMikey

When I talked to Nate last year about his rear bumper, he told me he tows upwards of 4800lbs with the one on his XJ. He doesn't list a maximum towing capacity on his site, because it'd be a legal problem if someone screwed up and things went terribly wrong, while using his bumper to tow.

Rocco83
04-18-2014, 08:40 PM
4800 isn't too bad. Will definitely have to keep one of my trucks though haha

bluedragon436
04-18-2014, 08:57 PM
Yeah I don't see why you should have any issues pulling a small utility trailer, or even something smaller like a set of Jet Ski's... a set of Jet Ski's would probably be the heavies thing other then using my bumper as a pull point if/when I get stuck or someone else needs a pull!!

XJMikey
04-18-2014, 09:00 PM
If JCR says their bumpers can handle factory trailer rating, I'd more than willingly tow 5,000lbs with Nate's bumper.

If you have electric brakes, I don't see it being a problem. You have an extra 8 mounting points added to the "hitch", so strength isn't a problem.
